Environmental Compliance Specialist

Arlington or Chantilly VA

ERG is seeking a highly-motivated and energetic multimedia environmental compliance specialist for our Northern Virginia offices (Arlington, VA and Chantilly, VA). This position requires occasional travel to client sites in the Washington, DC metro area.

The successful candidate will enjoy working as part of a dynamic team performing technical work and managing environmental compliance projects for federal government clients. Responsibilities may include the following:

Manage multiple environmental compliance projects and small project teams simultaneously

Support the development and implementation of a multi-media environmental compliance program

Serve as a technical specialist on all facets of environmental compliance

Perform analytical studies and occasional site visits, field studies, and sampling events

Present project findings to various stakeholder groups, both informally and formally

Serve as a mentor to junior-level environmental compliance engineers

Candidates must have the following:

BS or MS degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or related field with a minimum 3.0 GPA

5 to 10 years of experience

Experience with environmental compliance, including federal and state (MD, VA, DC preferred) environmental laws and regulations, including – but not limited to – CWA, CAA, SDWA, RCRA, EPCRA, CERCLA, TSCA, NEPA

Ability to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance

Ability to demonstrate exceptional technical writing capabilities, effectively communicate with a variety of stakeholders both orally and in writing, and work efficiently to meet tight deadlines, while providing quality client-ready deliverables.


Ideal candidates will have experience with the following:

Complying with DoD Instructions

Conducting multimedia environmental compliance inspections

Implementing stormwater management (particularly MS4 permitting and compliance)

Permitting and compliance of industrial wastewater discharges (NPDES and pre-treatment)

Managing hazardous waste

Permitting and compliance of air emissions

Complying with underground and aboveground petroleum storage tank regulations

Planning emergency response and decontamination

Writing plans such as SWPPP, SPCC Plan, TMP, Virginia ODCP

Managing ozone-depleting substances program
