LTE - Assistant Naturalist Guide
This position will conduct interpretive and education programs about property natural and cultural resources, teach outdoor skills, and encourage resource stewardship. This includes developing programs, displays, exhibits and other presentation methods for visitors, school groups and other community/volunteer associations. The position will begin approximately mid-May and end Labor Day. This position requires weekend and holiday work. For those interested, housing is available on property.
80% - Prepare and conduct property interpretive and environmental education programs for park users, including nature hikes and weekly shoreline kayak tours, utilizing a variety of presentation methods and techniques.
10% - Staffing the nature center, light maintenance and cleaning; provide direction of nature center volunteers, and development of nature center and interpretive displays.
10% - Keep and maintain accurate records and reports relating to interpretive services provided.
This is a limited term (LTE) position. Limited term positions do not automatically lead to or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employment, but this position does offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin. LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours within a twelve-month period. In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin. Non-residents may apply, but must meet residency requirements upon hire.
Employment will require the selected candidate to pass a background check. DNR does not sponsor work visas, thus, in compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of environmental concepts
- Experience in conducting education programs
- Knowledge of interpretive methods and techniques related to program planning and delivery
- Basic knowledge of Wisconsin flora and fauna (specific knowledge of Door County and/or Peninsula State Park)
- Ability to research for accurate information
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to work with diverse populations and all ages
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
- Willing to complete online DNR boater safety course
- Experience in planning education programs
- Experience leading volunteers and/or interns/staff
- Degree, coursework, or education program in natural sciences or related area
