Senior Technical Project Manager - Wind Turbine Testing

DNV GL – Energy’s Renewable energy consulting team is seeking a Senior Technical Project Manager to join our Turbine Testing group. This section specializes in conducting power performance measurements of utility-scale wind turbines per the International Electrotechnical Commission 61400-12-1 standard to assure wind turbine owners, investors, and manufacturers that their assets will meet expectations during operation. This position is based out of our Seattle, WA office.


Tasks May Include

Primary Responsibilities at Office (~80%):

Communicating technical and commercial topics with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors verbally and in writing.

Project management of power performance tests.

Test planning (including contract review, technical analysis, and documentation).

Measurement equipment design, procurement, and preparation.

Data monitoring and analysis to international standards and internal best practices.

Technical report writing, critical reviewing, and professional presentation to clients.


Primary Responsibilities at Wind Farms (~20%):

Inspection, verification and commissioning of as-built measurement systems to designed plans.

Installation and calibration of measurement systems.

Troubleshooting data acquisition systems and sensors.


Additional Tasks

Business development through building relationships with clients, lead generation and proposal writing.

Developing tools and processes to continuously improve quality and value of delivery.


Position Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering; math; atmospheric science, environmental science, physics, or a related field

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.

Minimum 3 year of consulting, renewable energy, or project management experience

Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification from the Project Management Institute preferred

Knowledge of Campbell Scientific data loggers and wind turbine SCADA systems desirable

Ability to write, manipulate, and edit code in Python is a plus

Willingness and ability to travel, up to 20% of the time

Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to rent and drive a car and travel on public conveyances when required

Normal office environment, occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs, regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing, and reaching. Occasional air and surface travel to wind farms, other offices, and conferences (up to 20% annually, sometimes long distance)

Occasional work outdoors in harsh conditions including, but not limited to, climbing stairs and ladders to ascend wind turbines or meteorological masts, traveling by car up to six hours, and walking on uneven terrain

Must be able to work in confined spaces

Ability to work extended hours as needed to meet deadlines and business needs

Valid driver’s license required and acceptable driving record meeting company requirements; ability to rent a vehicle.

Ability to work in the U.S and Canada

Strong written and verbal English communication skills
