Location: Brigantine Beach to Point Pleasant Beach and surrounding area, NJ
Duration: Mid March 2018 – August 2018
AIS Inc. is recruiting for experienced shore bird observer to monitor operations of a beach restoration project from Brigantine Beach to Point Pleasant Beach in New Jersey. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project will require endangered species observers (ESO) to implement protective measures around nesting sites of piping plovers, American oystercatchers, black skimmers, royal, common and least terns. The monitoring will be conducted 8 hours a day from approximately mid-March through mid-August.
Duties: ESO’s will work 8 hour shifts and their duties include but are not limited to: identification of piping plover territorial, courtship and nesting areas; documenting location, erection and maintenance of signage and string fencing around such areas; documenting behavior and other essential data, placement of predator enclosures around identified nesting sites; documenting data on logs in an organized manner and communication with the contractor and environmental agencies.
Qualifications: Qualified piping plover monitors and support staff must be approved by the NJ Fish and Wildlife Service for construction monitoring. All monitors used shall be biologists with a minimum of 2 years experience in the type of work being performed on this project or person(s) with a minimum of 5 years related experience that have the necessary education and/or experience in accordance with the requirements listed herein. Candidates must have experience collecting scientific data in the field and the ability to walk extensive areas of beaches in all environmental conditions. A Bachelors degree in a biological science is preferred, but not required.
Compensation: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
