Howard EcoWorks is seeking Crew Members for summer 2020.
Crew Members work in teams of 5 under the direction of a Crew Leader and our Landscape Foreman to construct and maintain environmental restoration projects such as rain gardens and conservation landscapes, as well as planting and maintaining trees, removing invasive plants, clearing debris from streams, and more. They can expect to work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions. In addition to learning environmental restoration domain skills, our employees receive training in a variety of transferable job skills. To further enhance an employee's knowledge of the field, Howard EcoWorks provides training for the Chesapeake Bay Landscaping Professional-Associate program (CBLP-A); contingent upon completing the requirements, a Crew Member will receive a CBLP-A Certificate. Work in the environmental industry is diverse. Those on the READY team will encounter the local and regional environmental issues that create a backdrop for the varied career opportunities in the environmental field.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Construct and maintain environmental landscaping practices such as rain gardens, native plant landscapes, native tree plantings, and stream restoration projects.
Master many aspects of landscaping work include planting, excavating, mulching, weeding, and more
Inspect local streams after major storm events
Remove tree limbs, overgrowth, and other debris from local streams
Properly store and handle all equipment, tools, materials, etc.
Engage in community and general public outreach
Qualifications & Requirements:
Must be between 16-25 years of age
Able and willing to work in a variety of outdoor settings including forests and streams
Demonstrated ability to work with a team as well as independently
Can physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 40 pounds repetitively throughout a day
Must have reliable transportation to the initial job site of the day
May be asked to use personal vehicle if applicable. Approved mileage is reimbursed
Passion and/or interest in the outdoors
Previous experience working outdoors or in landscaping
Flexible with changes in day to day tasks
Paid sick leave - 1 hour of Paid Sick Leave accumulated for every 30 hours worked

Opportunity to earn Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional-Associate certificate
This is a full-time, hourly, seasonal position that begins for all members on July 1st and works through August 14, 2020. Given the coronavirus situation, the start and end dates of this year's READY program are subject to change. Crew Member hours during the Summer are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. No paid holidays. Weekend work opportunities may be available but are not mandatory. Work in the field is weather-dependent. Indoor training and professional development opportunities may be offered on bad-weather days
