One Tree Planted is looking for a dynamic individual to add to our fast growing team. The ideal candidate would be a graduate in Forestry with five years of relevant experience and is a self-starter. You would be supporting our project management team by vetting our existing and upcoming reforestation projects. This position requires in person visits to our project sites, therefore the candidate would need to be willing to travel for work for as much as 50% of his/her time.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE FORESTRY SPECIALIST INCLUDE:
Review the technical design of proposed reforestation projects with particular attention to their contribution of science-based targets and carbon sequestration;
Provide recommendations on the technical design and monitoring protocols of proposed reforestation projects;
Provide a technical review of the progress reports submitted by planting partners of their reforestation projects;
Support consultations on carbon to the extent that donors and planting partners wish to pursue these beyond the scope of reforestation project objectives;
Carry out monitoring evaluations of selected reforestation projects based on site visits.
Master of Science in Forestry, Forest Science, or related field with training in relevant skills such as conducting forest biometrics, forest modeling, participatory rural appraisals, best practice forestry, and have a working knowledge of tree species commonly used in agroforestry as well as for native plantings worldwide and their ecosystem characteristics and impacts;
Have at least five (5) years relevant work experience, which could include on-the-ground reforestation, afforestation, landscape restoration, formulation of forest management plans, among others;
Willing to travel internationally for site visits;
Be proficient in Microsoft Office software, ArcGIS and other software relevant to monitoring forest metrics would be advantageous;
Excellent writing and communication skills;
Proficiency in Spanish and French would be advantageous;
Ability to work remotely; and
Collegial personality and team player.
