We are currently seeking a Senior Marketing and Communications Specialist. This position is located in Boulder, CO. It will report to our Marketing and Communications group in Columbus, OH and will require some travel to that location.
In this role, you will have responsibility for both external and internal communication needs in support of the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), a program managed by Battelle for the National Science Foundation. Internally, you will curate and implement original strategies and programs to drive employee engagement and retention, and be responsible for building an employee culture of trust through executive communications support, including all-employee messaging, meetings and financial performance reporting. Other areas of focus include benefits communications, employee recognition, manager communications, and the nurturing of two-way dialogue between leadership and employees.
In support of external marketing communication needs, you will develop strategies, programs, and tactics to grow a user community of ecological and environmental scientists who use the data collected through the Observatory in their research. By leveraging the Battelle brand, you will be responsible for growing familiarity and favorability around Battelle offerings. The expert communicator in this role also will be expected to create meaningful data sets to assess the return on investment of Battelle marketing initiatives.
Lead employee communications with scope covering executive communications, manager and employee communications, financial reporting, human resources and benefits, and strategy
Develop strategic communications plans to help inform, engage, and retain managers and employees
Ensure that employees have a broad understanding of Battelle’s mission, vision and strategy among all employees
Coordinate all internal communication channels to drive consistent access to messaging through the most appropriate means (intranet, internal social media, email, etc.)
Manage employee engagement events including recognition, networking opportunities, and informational sessions
Ensure that Battelle corporate messaging penetrates all levels of the organization
Manage external social media channels
Work with the Battelle Public Relations team to generate earned media and handle media inquiries
Write and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of messaging, channels, communication materials and programs and provide recommendations to management on new/revised programs.
Work with the Director of Education and team to ensure brand consistency in all educational materials
Develop communications plans to promote workshops, tutorials and other educational activities and evaluate effectiveness
As a contributing member to the overall Marketing and Communications team, the Senior Communications Specialist may support other areas, needs and duties as assigned
THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, English or Marketing.
Must have eight years of experience in a similar position.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills, with an upbeat attitude and demonstrated willingness to take initiative.
Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of business growth strategies and marketing and communications activities, including demand generation. (database marketing), online marketing and new media.
Demonstrated strong creative, strategic, analytical and organizational skills.
Superior level of oral and written communication skills and experience, especially in marketing and marketing communications.
Skills and familiarity with a broad range of communication techniques and styles such as employee engagement, leadership effectiveness, and change management.
Must be able to counsel and advise peers and business partners, manage projects, work well under pressure, and work with various personalities as part of a larger team.

MBA in Marketing
Experience working in a corporate environment
