Campaign Organizer - South Florida

Remote Location FL

Oceana is an international nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to protecting the world’s oceans. Oceana’s campaigns are directed at achieving measurable policy changes to prevent the irreversible collapse of ocean life. Results are achieved through science, law, advocacy, organizing public support, and communications.

This position reports directly to the Field Campaigns Manager and will work closely with the other Campaign Organizers in the southeast, to execute a campaign plan and carry out the tasks necessary to meet campaign objectives, track timelines and report on progress. This position requires initiative and an ability to work on one’s own to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks, while managing a varied and high volume workload.

About the Campaign

Oceana’s strategic outreach and grassroots organizing efforts played a significant role in building the movement to prevent the former administration from allowing offshore drilling and seismic airgun blasting to commence off the United States Atlantic Coast. Our campaign efforts, in conjunction with those of our partners, have resulted in more than 230 municipalities in coastal states, 1,200 elected officials, and thousands of business and fishing interests publically opposing seismic airgun blasting and the expansion of offshore drilling.

This position will focus on building on this winning model to stop the expansion of offshore oil and gas drilling activities off Atlantic Coast. Campaign Organizers will also work to build support for Oceana’s other campaigns as needed.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Build a broad, effective campaign including but not limited to: grassroots coalition building, public engagement and repeat volunteerism, legislative advocacy, traditional and social media acquisition, and development of a self-sustaining and continuing foundation of support for Oceana’s organizational goals.

Execute the campaign in conjunction with Oceana’s team of professionals in DC and in the field. This will include working with other field staff, scientists, legislative and communications professionals, as well as Oceana’s volunteers, online activists, allies, and others.

Regularly report on progress of the campaign, and lead the charge for overcoming obstacles to ensure goals and objectives are met.

Perform additional duties for Oceana’s Climate and Energy campaign, as well as other campaigns, as needs arise.

Job Requirements:

3+ years of campaign experience, including engaging volunteers and building a foundation of support for a policy outcome.

Demonstrated success building and cultivating relationships in a way that persuades individuals to support an organization’s agenda and generates measurable results.

Demonstrated initiative to self-motivate, work with diverse communities, and serve as a team leader.

A track record of being detail-oriented, with excellent organizational skills and follow-through, and ability to multi-task.

Experience using phone, email, and social media to engage large numbers of supporters and activists.

Computer literacy with Microsoft Office applications required, proficiency with Salesforce.com (or other CRMs) a plus.

An ability to work well with others; collaborative and good-natured team player.

A valid U.S. Drivers’ License. Must be willing to travel.
