The Director of the Roger Tory Peterson Estuary Center (RTPEC) in Old Lyme is a senior management position responsible for the operations, fiscal management, programming, and maintenance of the Center as well as its relationship within the community and Regional Board.
The Director is a highly visible, energetic, and organized leader with a demonstrable passion and prior experience in environmental science and conservation. The Director is a member of the Southeast Connecticut regional community and works in concert with other CAS staff to carry out the mission of the RTPEC and the Connecticut Audubon Society.

The Director reports to the Executive Director of CAS and the Regional Board, which has responsibility for managing the operations and affairs of CAS and its staff in the Region, and works in close cooperation with the Statewide Director of Education. The annual performance review of the Director will be done by the Executive Director with the participation of the Regional Board.

· Meet financial and programmatic objectives of the center as established by the Regional Board in the annual budget process. Manage expenditures to match with revenue and prioritized activities.
· Manage staff to ensure they are well-trained, meet their position requirements, and enjoy job satisfaction. Develop a performance review process as well as annual objectives for the staff.
· Provide leadership to the RTPEC staff to achieve their potential and encouragement to advance within the organization.
· Ensure high quality, mission-related programming including science, education, adult and community programs, and summer camp.
· Manage public engagement through volunteer programs, member and special events.
· Manage facilities to maximize efficiency and program support.
· Working with the Regional Board to build and maintain the Regional Board including maintaining and recruiting members
· Work with the committees of the Regional Board to maintain a solid framework for the operations and programs of the Center.
· Create partnerships with local businesses, academic institutions, NGOs, and governments to support programmatic and budgetary objectives
· Facilitate and promote local and regional conservation efforts to benefit birds, other wildlife and their habitats in the region
· Manage interactions with philanthropic prospects
· Work with the CAS Grant Writer in the preparation of foundation grants and ensure a program that manages and tracks grant-funded programs meeting all conditions and requirements of the awarded grants.
· Work with RTPEC staff, board and the CAS staff where appropriate to establish and implement development, conservation, education, science, research, and communication strategies.
· Other duties as necessary to ensure successful operation of the Center and CAS in the Southeast Connecticut Region.
* Bachelor’s Degree

Preference given for:
* Graduate Degree in conservation, environmental science, education, non-profit management
* Advanced managerial/operational experience
* Community involvement
* Familiarity with local and regional conservation issues as well as the region’s birds, other wildlife and their habitats
* Experience in conservation public policy
