The Director of Strategic Engagement will play a central role in building a venture philanthropy program at an innovative non-profit organization. This position will build relationships with an existing portfolio of major donors, identify and qualify prospects, and provide fundraising expertise to field staff who manage multi-million-dollar portfolios. There are opportunities to develop new products for venture philanthropy and to incubate creative ideas for fundraising as well. Being able to empathize with donors, clearly communicate our organization’s mission, and to think outside of the box are key. The Director of Strategic Engagement will regularly meet with donors to further relationships, participate in engagement events, and identify opportunities for growth.
Responsible for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a small portfolio of donors;
Responsible for prospect identification and cultivation of prospects;
Works collaboratively with field staff to create and implement fundraising strategies for portfolio of donors managed by field staff;
Responsible for setting and meeting financial fundraising goals;
Assists Senior Staff with select donor relationships;
Performs other duties as assigned.
DESIRED BACKGROUND AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
At least three to five years of experience closing individual major gifts at the $10,000 level and above.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Self-starter with demonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
Organized, detail-oriented, possessing a builder’s mentality and strong work ethic.
Passion and interest in the mission of the Conservation Fund.
Ability and willingness to travel 2-3 overnights per month.
The work requires only minor physical exertion and/or physical strain.
The position does require sporadically working long hours and/or weekends.
Overnight travel is required.
This position will be based in New York City with the ability to work remotely.
