AWS Truepower, a UL company, is a global renewable energy firm providing quality, innovative energy engineering and advisory services to project developers and operators, investors, utilities, government agencies, and manufacturers.
AWS Truepower is currently seeking a Scientist to support the renewable energy forecasting operations group. The position requires a combination of meteorological and programming knowledge and skills to perform tasks such as writing software applications in support of operational forecasting systems within a real-time 24x7 data delivery environment, and evaluating forecast performance. Prospective candidates will be expected to have a strong professional and/or educational record with excellent mathematical and statistical modeling skills.
Interact with meteorologists and programmers to develop and implement accurate and efficient approaches to operational forecasting for a variety of weather-sensitive applications;
Create, modify, and maintain software programs to aid in the accuracy, functionality, and usability of operational forecasting systems;
Monitor forecasted and observed weather conditions to identify hazards that may have critical impacts on client operations: and,
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in meteorology, engineering, statistics, physics or related field
2+ years on-the-job programming experience in a Unix/Linux environment or demonstrable programming ability
Experience in programming with at least one high-level language, such as Fortran, Perl, C/C++, or Python
Authorization to work in the U.S. (without sponsorship)
Write, modify, execute, and maintain software
Strong communication (spoken and written) and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to work effectively with colleagues, meet deadlines, perform high-quality data analyses, assess and validate results, and work on several projects simultaneously.
Knowledge, education, or experience in the renewable energy industry
Familiarity with Java-based XML REST and SOAP web services
Experience with machine learning techniques and algorithms
Minimal travel may be required
Salary is commensurate with experience.
