Solar PV Technology Engineer

Position Description

The Solar PV Technology Engineer is responsible for providing technical support for the selection, design, construction and operational processes for EDPR’s solar PV power plants. The person in this role will work with the Head of the Department of Solar to maximize efficiency and manage technological risks at assigned solar power plants.


Main accountabilities:

• Use state of the art knowledge of the solar PV supplier industry to perform technical diagnoses of the different systems and installations in the market

• Identify the best models from a technological standpoint and capture the existing knowledge

• Support the development and implementation of technical normalization for solar PV Technology at all EDPR locations globally

• Apply best practices of the industry in maximize efficiency in the construction and operation of assets

• Assist with defining technical requirements for solar PV Technology procurement processes

• Provide support during the procurement tendering process in order to make the best selection possible

• Provide technical support to the solar PV RFI and RFP processes

• Conduct due diligence for new solar PV projects

• Collaborate closely with various departments including Procurement, Energy Assessment, Engineering, Construction, Operations, Investment Analysis, and Development

• Communicate information continuously and effectively to cross-functional teams

• Additional duties as required


Indirect reports: Up to two

Travel: 25% - 50% Internationally


Minimum qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related technical field

• 5+ years in the Solar PV energy sector

• Working knowledge of the Solar Industry from a manufacturing or construction standpoint

• Knowledge of the PV technology (PV cells and modules, structure and trackers, inverters, BoS)

• Knowledge of solar PV design and assessment software tools (PVSyst, Helios3D, etc.)


Preferred qualifications:

• Engineering and/or construction of renewable energy projects

• Postgraduate studies in Renewable energies

• Proficient in Spanish and Portuguese

Physical Requirements:

• Sitting/Standing/Flexibility: Ability to stand and sit for 8 or more hours when in an office environment

• Walking: Ability to walk .25 to .5 miles per day, including across unpaved and rough surfaces when on project sites, or manufacturing sites

• Speech/Reading: Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently and deliver a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form

• Lifting: Ability to lift items weighing up to 10 pounds

• Vision/Hearing: Ability to understand a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram, or schedule form

• Tolerance to Extreme Weather Conditions: Ability to work in adverse weather conditions 25% of the time while on project sites

• Safety: Ability to understand and communicate safety precautions when necessary
