Lead Journeyman Electrician Job Description

Our solar installer teams work Monday through Thursday (occasionally on Fridays and some nights for system interconnects), on rooftops and the ground, all over the front range of Colorado and occasionally beyond in all types of weather.



Lead and train crews on AC component of commercial PV project implementation

Ensure crew and job site safety

Lead quality AC installations based on system design documents and applicable code

Ensure that entire installation meets expected quality standards

Implement Namaste Solar Quality Control Program

Collaborate with Construction Manager in pre-planning of project tool/equipment requirements, labor needs, workflow, and site utilization

Responsible for tool management and assigned vehicle

Coordinate schedule and all electrical work with other trades or subcontractors on project site

Ensure install resources are optimally utilized

Direct necessary revisions to workflow or resources to meet project schedule

Collaborate with design team, construction manager, and project managers to resolve field issues

Provide as-built installation and testing documentation in a timely manner

Understand and implement best practices while working near energized electrical components


Essential Functions (Specific Tasks/Deliverables)

Coordination of initial project site setup/mobilization

Quantity take off and material procurement

Lead installation of complete PV system including equipment layout, conduit and wiring runs, DC & AC disconnects, inverter installation, grid interconnection, QA/QC, and testing

Mentor PV installers and apprentices in AC skill development

Communicate with inspectors and various stakeholders on project specifics

Complete required safety training(s)

Remain physically capable of performing work

Ensure safety of entire job site

Jobsite daily reporting and job hazard analysis (JHA) review

Weekly jobsite safety meeting

Lead QA/QC and testing of system prior to commissioning

Produce project as-built documentation

Photo documentation of installation


Standards & Expectations

Develop skills and knowledge in solar PV installations

Assure installations are above industry quality standards

Willing to travel and work on occasional remote projects located more than 3 hours from Denver


Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Must have a current Journeyman Colorado Electrical License

OSHA 10 certification

Expert working knowledge of OSHA standards

Expert understanding of electrical wiring, sizing conduit, sizing wire, and conduit bending

Solution oriented problem solving abilities

Comfortably able to lift 50lbs, climb ladders, and work on roof tops in varying temperatures

Excellent teamwork skills ability to foster a positive team environment through collaborative decision making

Ability to read, understand, and edit electrical and structural plans and interpret field layouts

Effectively coordinate and communicate with others

Demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace

Ability to succeed in a fast paced, community environment

Ability to challenge and debate issues of importance to the organization

Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Suite


Not needed now but you'll be even more prepared for the job if you have

OSHA 30 certification

NABCEP certification

Experience as a foreman or superintendent working on commercial construction projects

Expert understanding of AC & DC solar installations including fixed and tracking ground mount racking systems

Experience managing/installing large commercial (>250kW) roof mounted PV systems

Experience managing/installing large commercial (>1MW) ground mounted PV systems

Willingness/ability to achieve licensure in states adjacent to Colorado

Experience with Medium Voltage Electrical Installations

Experience in Construction Management

Experience designing and permitting commercial PV systems


Compensation and Terms

This position is full-time, based in Denver or Boulder. Must be able to commute to either location

Hourly rate dependent on experience with pay increase eligibility after 6 months and ample career growth and promotion opportunities

Opportunity for 4-day, 40-hour work week

Volunteer overtime opportunities

2 weeks paid time off and 10 floating holidays (accrues immediately)

Physical demands & work environment

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift and climb ladders to access roofs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Driving required to site locations

Work environment: The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate. Work environment changes by project, but can be anticipated to be flat or pitched roofs or ground mounted installations on uneven terrain. High and potentially dangerous exposure to electricity. The daily temperature varies from hot to cold depending on the season.
