Summary:

The Senior Project Manager (PM) manages all aspects of large Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) Solar projects, including risk-to-cost, schedule, and quality.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Demonstrate skills including the ability to manage large and complex projects and milestones within schedule and budget expectations and be responsible for compliance strategy, QA/QC, oversight of field data collection, and document preparation.

Provide guidance and direction to the project team regarding workflow, project controls, project and contract issues, operations interface, etc. to ensure project performance consistent with contract expectations.

Provide Risk Management assessment and work with project team to manage risks and opportunities.

Support construction contract administration and risk management activities; and manage budgets, schedules, invoicing and other contract requirements.

Work closely with project team and customers to assure crews and contractors are coordinated to work efficiently and meet contracting requirements, budgets, forecasts and schedules. Ensure barriers to construction progress are removed in a timely manner.

Systematically and regularly appraise and evaluate project progress against established goals, timelines and objectives. Provide supervision to project team to correct deficiencies in these areas.

Promote and develop common systems and processes to provide for proper accounting, reporting of project costs, customer billing, scheduling, material procurement, record keeping, documentation and budgeting by Assistant Project Managers and Field Engineers.

Consult with Utilities, Clients and Owners regarding design requirements, job specifications, bid requirements and offer technical expertise regarding construction solutions

Promote proactive and preventive safety activities by observing, analyzing, encouraging safe work behaviors and correcting unsafe conditions. Integrate safety into project plans, establish safety goals, reinforce safety policies and procedures, support safety training, and monitor safety metrics. Support and coach supervisors and employees, provide feedback to encourage learning and create awareness, set priorities and focus on continuous improvement.

Act to ensure key project input including environmental, regulatory and governmental relations, public relations and landowner concerns are appropriately addressed on construction projects throughout the project lifecycle.

Understand critical design requirements of on-going projects and continuously monitor construction quality to ensure compliance within established tolerances.

Interface with key customers to ensure that construction activities in affected areas are communicated and understood.

Delegate activities, responsibilities, and authorities, ensuring appropriate levels and assignments of accountability are defined and understood.

Assist with the development and tracking of key performance metrics.

Monitor equipment type, purchases, usage, inspection, maintenance on project

Conduct constructability reviews, perform cost estimating and purchasing functions.

Collaborate with engineering, development and project management teams in conducting design optimization and value engineering of energy projects.

Participates with other departments in the development and management of Continuous Improvement activities to improve support for customers and the business in a changing environment.

Drive successfully closing out projects in a timely, efficient manner to the satisfaction of the design team and the owner. Understand procedures for obtaining certificates of substantial completion, final occupancy permit and closing out of all permits.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Manage key project team members, in concert with their respective functional managers, with regard to project related activities and issues, for example, Project Engineer, Project Buyer, Construction Manager, Project Cost Controller, Project Scheduler, Project Coordinator, and Project Administrator.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

 

Skills and Competencies:

Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment

Advanced knowledge and application of PM processes

Advanced understanding and application of contract commercial terms

Ability to negotiate contracts and scopes of work

Basic knowledge of finance and ability to act with limited supervision in the processing of finance related information

Supervisory, conflict management, and team building skills

Expertise in building codes, permitting and labor issues

Sound and proven construction management and project management skills

Strong contract administration and construction risk management skills

Strong leadership, written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving ability

Strong customer service skills with focus on listening to the customer

Ability to conduct negotiations with vendors, supplies, governmental entities and utilities

Working knowledge of engineering design, procurement, and construction practices and procedures

Working knowledge of project management cost systems (i.e. Earned Value methodology)

Working knowledge of project scheduling concepts, techniques, and software such as MS-Project; experience with Primavera P6 a plus

Multi-project execution experience

Solar Industry experience a plus

 

Background and Experience:

10-15 years of experience in project management and/or construction management of large scale projects or programs

BS in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline, advance study in Project Management and/or MBA desired

Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification, Program Management Professional (PgMP) Certificate, or equivalent.
