AES Distributed Energy (AES DE) is currently seeking a Community Relations Manager to assist project development and permitting efforts in Hawaii as a member of AES DE’s Greenfield Business Development team. The Greenfield team is tasked with internal self-origination and development of solar and solar + storage projects up to construction commencement.
The successful candidate will lead and manage community relations as the face of AES DE for its existing and future pipeline of projects AES DE has in Hawaii which includes utility scale solar + storage projects on Kauai, Oahu, Maui and Big Island both in Operation, Construction and Development. Will also be able to communicate effectively and advocate to social organizations, government officials, public and private institutions, regulatory agencies, and educational institutions, while representing AES DE in Hawaii competently and professionally.
This position will be based in Hawaii and reports to AES DE’s Director of Business Development. The role requires frequent travel between islands and some trips to AES DE’s main office in Louisville, CO. The successful candidate will work on a cross functional team with project development, legal, finance, engineering, construction, and outside consultants, landowners, customers, project stakeholders and utility companies.
Identify, map and track key stakeholders for each of AES DE’s projects in Hawaii
Develop and execute on a community relations plan for each project
Lead community outreach efforts including planning and hosting community meetings as necessary
Meet with key stakeholders, community members and represent AES DE in a professional manner
Support the development and permitting efforts of AES DE for its projects in Hawaii as an on-island resource and face of AES DE
Assist in tasks relating to project development and permits as coordinated by the AES DE Project Development Manager for Hawaii projects
Proactively mitigate risks by monitoring community, government and regulatory affairs
Track local policy, actions and news as it relates or could impact AES DE or its projects in Hawaii
Serve as the primary spokesperson for AES DE in the community and at hearings
Skills and Qualifications:
Undergraduate or postgraduate degree
Familiarity with energy development in Hawaii
Vast knowledge of the Hawaiian Islands and its history and culture
Large network of contacts and relationships in Hawaii with key stakeholders
Experience in project or land development and permitting in Hawaii
Experience with community relations in Hawaii
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
Knowledge of solar project development, utilities, interconnection, permitting, contracting
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Self-starter, very self-reliant and capable of operating with minimum supervision
Willingness and ability to travel frequently within Hawaii
Energy storage knowledge a plus
