Solar Communications Technician

Nexamp is seeking a Solar Communications Technician to join the Nexamp Energy Center (NEC) Team. The NEC monitors our solar and storage assets seven days a week, and provides monitoring and data analysis to maintain the fleet in top operating condition, generate revenue, and maximize community solar distributions. The NEC requires a dedicated communication specialist to keep fleet communications online and data flowing. This position will report to the VP, NEC. Options available for the right candidate to work from other Nexamp regional offices.



Commission and maintain on site data acquisition system and communications equipment.

Leverage problem-solving skills to asses break fix options remotely or through dispatch to site.

Continuously evaluate current and emerging technologies and apply accordingly throughout the project lifecycle.

The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic, self-motivated, hands-on, results-oriented, and a team player.


Key qualifications include:

Skilled at communicating with various field equipment using protocols such as TCP/IP and Modbus.

Possesses networking skills, basic understanding of VPNs, IP addressing, and subnets.

Experience with hard line and cellular networks, M2M cellular modems, routers, gateways, antennas, and signal boosters.

Understanding of Windows OS components and prior experience with Linux.

Ability to work safely outdoors, possibly on ladders, roofs, and near electrical production equipment found on solar arrays.

Understanding of electrical meters, power, voltage, amperage, and ability to work with a multimeter preferred.

Candidate should be able to use some electrical hands tools including cable crimping tools, and occasionally power tools.

SCADA programming experience preferred.
