The Director of Network Operations will run the “brain” of Strata Solar Services (SSS). In a world of increasingly big data, the ideal candidate will leverage the data-advantage to differentiate Strata from its customers in new ways, such as virtual power plants, engineering feedback loops, plant optimization, and performance-based pricing. A successful candidate will have deep functional expertise in production analytics and data science. The candidate will have the experience or ability to quickly learn network operations center management and NERC regulatory compliance. The candidate should be comfortable managing teams to outcomes, collaborating with peers and partners across the business, and setting strategic priorities to realize this future vision. To be a good fit for this role, the candidate should be able to demonstrate humility, leadership, intrinsic initiative and industry, proven business judgement, the ability to develop and inspire others, and the ability to communicate effectively with executive audiences.
Manage three departments: Performance Analytics, Network Operations Centers (NOC), and NERC Compliance
Manage these teams to:
Serve as the eyes and ears monitoring the portfolio’s energy production
Deliver value-additive insights to help customers – and SSS on their behalf – better manage production
Ensure Strata meets all customer requirements for analytical reporting and incident response times
Investigate any variances from contractual response times & obligations, deliver findings & recommendations
Identify, troubleshoot, create action plans, and when necessary escalate issues across the portfolio
Actively seek win-win opportunities to upsell customers on billable service
Comply with NERC medium-impact requirements at all times
Create and realize a new vision for leveraging big data to deliver outsized insights for customers
Manage vendors supporting Network Ops directly and serve as point of contact from Network Ops to customer
Contribute to and collaborate with other members of the SSS leadership team, helping set strategic vision and manage outcomes toward operational and financial goals
Improve processes and adoption of system capabilities continuously to improve efficiency and reduce cost
Participate directly in escalated technical issues such as outages or damages relating to PV plants, guiding such issues to favorable resolution and keeping all parties informed
Emphasize our safety culture and empower teams throughout all of Strata to prioritize safety over all other activities
Other projects & responsibilities in support of the company’s continued growth, improvement, and success.
Demonstrate leadership within SSS to further owners’ long-term vision and objectives
Manage day-to-day activities for team of employees (see above)
Shepherd employee’s learning and career development through high-value activities
Obtain and provide routine feedback to direct employees
Conduct routine performance evaluations and continuously provide coaching to improve performance
Maintain staffing levels adequate to provide industry-leading service levels and 24/7 real-time coverage
Oversee budgeting and budget management for relevant departments
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other technical field is required, graduate degree preferred in statistics, data analytics, electrical engineering or other technical field
5+ years in power plant Operations & Maintenance or other directly relevant experience required
3+ years demonstrated experience in the solar industry
2+ years professional leadership experience required
Expertise in data analytics and power systems; strong executive communication skills
