Solar United Neighbors' Pennsylvania Program, based in Pittsburgh, is seeking an intern to help advance our work in the Commonwealth. We are willing to customize the internship with a particular intern candidate’s interests and schedule in mind. Broadly speaking, we would like the intern to work within one of these two categories:
Supporting Solar Co-ops: Solar co-ops are our primary way to create new solar homeowners. They bring together a group of people in a targeted geographic area, educate them about solar, and then help them leverage their collective buying power to get a better deal on an installation. Potential intern projects in support of solar co-ops could include:
Conducting residential solar market research
Performing remote roof reviews to determine solar suitability
Outreach to local media
Conducting interviews with solar co-op members to help them in their solar journey
Virtual or in-person promotion of the solar co-op to homeowners and businesses (pandemic-permitting)
Supporting Policy Campaigns: Solar United Neighbors mobilizes our network of grassroots supporters to make change, usually at the state or local level. In 2021, our top Pennsylvania policy priorities are updating the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard to have more aggressive solar goals and passing enabling legislation for community solar. Potential intern projects in support of our policy campaigns could include:
Conducting political analysis, researching the backgrounds, election results, donors, and interests of key state legislators
Writing text for advocacy materials
Tracking legislation in Harrisburg
Researching legislation in other states
Rallying solar supporters to take action via social media, texting, or in-person outreach (pandemic-permitting)
Helping supporters schedule meetings with their legislators
*Preference for applicants who reside in PA or with an interest in PA energy issues.
Please apply to internships by sending a resume and cover letter to email@example.com with the internship title in the subject line. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Unless otherwise specified, internships are unpaid.
