Great Lakes Region MI

Ducks Unlimited seeks to hire a civil engineer to assist with the design and delivery of wetland restorations. The successful applicant will join a highly-motivated conservation team dedicated to accomplishing DU’s mission of wetland and waterfowl conservation. This entry to mid-level position will be located in the Great Lakes/Atlantic Regional Office just outside of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Applicant will assist a regional team to deliver wetland and associated habitat restoration projects in the Great Lakes/North Atlantic portion of the region.

Duties may include: (1) assist surveyors in topographic survey and construction staking, (2) generate topographic maps and draft construction plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D software; (3) assist regional engineers with and eventually be responsible for the design of various wetland projects; (4) provide oversight and serve as DU’s representative on construction projects; (5) coordinate restoration activities with federal, state, and private partners; and (6) represent DU with local, state, and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners. Moderate multi-state travel is required.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum B.S. in Civil Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET accredited college.

Licensed Professional Engineer or Engineer-in-Training.

Knowledge and experience in engineering practices related to civil design, hydrology, hydraulics, construction and surveying.

Knowledge of AUTOCAD Civil 3D and engineering related software.

Knowledge of heavy construction work methods, practices, materials and equipment.

Knowledge of methods and techniques of project administration, construction inspection and materials testing.

Knowledge and operation of topographic and construction surveying techniques, including GPS is a plus, but not required.

Demonstrated ability to work with public and private conservation partners.

Demonstrated oral and written interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to operate ATV and outboard boats.

Self-motivated and goal oriented.

Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, work independently, and travel overnight.

Must be able to work in inclement weather, and have the ability to work with minimal supervision in remote work environments.
