Tetra Tech MAI, Inc., a subsidiary of Tetra Tech, is seeking candidates for the position of Energy Engineer in the energy efficiency field to support the evaluation of energy efficiency programs. Qualified candidates will have a mix of technical, interpersonal, and communication skills.
The successful candidate will have an opportunity to join a growing energy efficiency practice and continue to gain expertise in the energy efficiency and evaluation field. Candidates are expected to have an understanding of facility energy systems, and design and/or operations and maintenance of residential or commercial buildings or industrial systems, either from course work or on-the-job experience. Proficiency in engineering fundamentals, analytical, and problem solving capability is crucial to the success of our engineers.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Being an independent problem solver and contributor to multiple research and project teams
Analyzing primary data using Excel, R, SAS, or other analytical software; identifying trends; summarizing program events; and identifying causal impacts on program results
Performing energy calculations
Familiarity with energy efficiency codes and equipment efficiency standards
Developing custom energy analysis for all types of residential, commercial, and industrial systems such as lighting, HVAC, industrial refrigeration, and compressed air
Supporting measurement and verification (M&V), analysis review, M&V plan writing, field investigation, and reporting.
A bachelor’s degree in engineering
1-3 years of work experience in engineering, building sciences, or energy efficiency
An understanding of the basic principles underlying building energy use, including thermodynamics, heat transfer, and electricity use
Experience with some or all of the following tasks: building and end-use energy modeling, bin data analysis, monitoring/measurement and verification, data logging, and statistical analysis
Knowledge about efficient technologies, including lighting, HVAC equipment, motors, building envelopes, and compressed air
Excellent oral, written, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Strong interest in energy efficiency
Desire to learn and grow
Attention to detail and quality.
