Environmental Resources Specialist 1

Employee performs beginning level professional work in a specialty area in the acquisition, preservation, management and enhancement of the state's environmental/natural resources. Acquires the knowledge, skills and abilities to function at the beginning level; assists higher level specialist in programmatic areas. Work involves the application of scientific principles, laws and regulations and program planning techniques in the areas of assignment. Areas may include grants and contract administration, environmental/natural resource program development and evaluation, education, or environmental monitoring and compliance. Assists in the planning, organization and implementation of a state-wide or regional specialty program. Travel over difficult terrain and in inclement weather may be required.

Hiring Process: This job requires a written examination (W). Exams are given in several locations and no appointment is necessary. We encourage you to apply online. For test schedules, locations, see link below. If you apply online, you do not have to take a copy of the application to the test center. DO NOT APPLY UNLESS YOU CAN TEST WITHIN 90 DAYS. Online applicants who do not test within 90 days of application will be rejected. Applicants using a paper application must present a completed application form at the test site. Positive identification is required. There is a 90 day re-test waiting period. Caution: Any time you re-take the same test your new score, whether higher or lower, will automatically replace any previous test scores.

Your eligible score will be based on information provided in your application. Make sure your application is detailed and complete. You may attach a resume and other documents; however, you should NEVER enter "See Resume" on the application. You MUST complete ALL parts of the application, including the Work Experience section. NOTE: Jobs on your application that do not have a salary amount will be considered volunteer and will NOT be counted as qualifying. Estimate salary if necessary.



Training: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university with a major in chemistry, physics, geography, geology, biology, economics, engineering, environmental studies, natural science*, or archeology.

* Examples of Natural Science fields might include: Astronomy, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Ecology and Environmental Science, Marine Science, Physics, Earth Science, Forestry, Land Management, Agriculture, Conservation, and Atmospheric Science or related areas.

Social Science, non-natural science degrees, and degrees not related to those above DO NOT qualify.


Substitution: Full-time or equivalent part-time paid technical or paraprofessional experience in the acquisition, preservation, protection and enhancement of environmental/natural resources may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
