Environmental Compliance Specialist

Omaha NE

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for ensuring environmental compliance throughout development, construction and operation of renewable energy projects. Includes responsibilities such as working with government agencies to obtain permits and approvals, consultant contract execution and oversight, monitoring environmental permit compliance, and developing and negotiating mitigation strategies of environmental issues.

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Provides oversight and guidance to project delivery team related to regulatory and government agencies and associated issues including coordinating endangered species, erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management, etc.

Procures contracts with and ensures satisfactory deliverables of environmental consultants. Includes but not limited to NEPA desktop reviews and Phase 1 studies during project development

Monitors construction projects and maintenance operations to ensure environmental commitments, mitigation plans and permit stipulations implemented

Communicates and coordinates frequently with project delivery team

Performs environmental risk assessment and mitigation

Engages with Federal, State and Local resource and regulatory agencies as needed to share project related information

Performs quality assurance for project delivery process and regulates/participates in program audits

Reviews and recommends approval to management of environmental documents and/or permits

Manages consultant contracts to ensure accountability to cost, deliverables, and schedule

Participates in project site visits to collect and gather information and identify documentation requirements based on established criteria and potential environmental issues and/or concerns

Performs other duties as required and assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Working knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations associated with earth disturbance, wetlands and watercourses, threatened and endangered species, historic resources, and general engineering principles

Working knowledge of environmental permitting and issues related to the energy sector

Strong communication skills including verbal and written, and experience with third party consultants, customers and stakeholders

Excellent analytical skills; ability to gather and assess information against identified criteria or parameters, and provide recommendations, analyses, or conclusions which are supported by the information presented

Ability to prepare environmental documents and permit applications

Handle rapid changes in projects, deadlines, and issues, while maintaining a professional demeanor

Strong computer skills including proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Ability to travel as required

 

Experience*:

Minimum of 2 years in Environmental consulting experience required

Experience in the renewable energy industry preferred

 

Education & Training*:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Wildlife, Engineering or related field preferred

*Equivalent education and experience will be considered
