The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Tidewater Regional Office, seeks a qualified individual to administer the air permitting program. This position will supervise eight permit writers to ensure air permit applications are accurately developed pursuant to state and federal requirements and are appropriately and timely processed. This position may be required to develop and process permits. In addition, this position will coordinate with agency managers to ensure consistency and program improvement. This position will oversee public meetings and hearings, attend meetings and interact with the public and regulated community. In addition, this position will work with permitting staff to instill teamwork and a high level of performance.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in engineering or environmental sciences required. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities to include: environmental, mechanical and chemical engineering principles; air pollution control technologies; writing and reviewing engineering reports; interpreting environmental laws and regulations. Experience writing air permits and correspondence; and reading and interpreting air pollution laws, regulations, and policies. Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and experience using PC word processing and spreadsheet software. Must complete or provide certification of previous completion of the following National Incident Management (NIMS) courses: ICS 100 and IS 700.
Previous management experience preferred.
