Job Summary

The Junior Environmental Specialist is responsible for assisting the Environmental Manager with managing environmental compliance of NRG’s Distributed Generation assets. In fulfilling these duties, the position will interface with internal project teams and the Environmental Compliance Manager. Key job activities may include: regulatory analysis, tracking emissions, providing regulatory assistance for the preparation of air quality permit applications and related documents, development of compliance monitoring plans, development of spill prevention and risk management plans, compliance reporting and document management/control.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Contribute to the development and effective implementation of an environmental strategy, programs, systems and processes that ensure NRG’s Distributed Generation assets remain in compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations as well as corporate environmental policy, goals, targets and compliance programs:

Air emissions

Monitoring and tracking

Stack testing


Document control

Manage SPCC programs including updates, plan reviews, and tank inspections

SARA Tier II reporting

Create documents, including reports, memos, graphs, charts, tables, etc.

Communicate information clearly, both orally and in print.

Follow required:

Communication protocols for telephone and face-to-face communication

Safety protocols and guidelines

Corporate policies and procedures.

Actively participate in, and complete, all required training

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in the environmental discipline: engineering, natural sciences/resources or a related field of study.

Basic knowledge of EPA programs including, but not limited to, NESHAPS, NSPS, and SPCC programs

Professionalism and excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, with project manager and other staff

Must be able to read, write and speak English

Proficient in use of EMIS (Intelex)

Knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations

Successful completion of all training requirements


Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience doing compliance reporting in an industrial setting
