Provide guidance and oversight to AES global facilities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including thermal generation, renewables, transmission and distribution operations, new projects, decommissioning, and construction activities. Provide support and detailed guidance to internal stakeholders regarding current and pending environmental legislation, regulations, rules, policies, and permit requirements. Apply for, obtain, interpret, and advise in implementation of environmental permits.
Closely monitor developments and actions related to environmental regulations, public policy, and litigation that can affect AES businesses, including participation in stakeholder involvement and development of comments in public record.
Provide support and detailed guidance to internal stakeholders regarding current and pending environmental regulations, rules, and permit requirements.
Initiate or review environmental studies and plans to ensure compliance with new requirements.
Interface with regulators, other governmental agencies, and stakeholders to resolve issues and respond to questions regarding AES operations.
Apply for, obtain, interpret, and implement permits.
Advise in development and implementation of procedures & policies to ensure continuous compliance with existing and pending environmental regulations.
Fully fluent in reading, writing, and speaking both English and Spanish.
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering or a Environmental-related field from an accredited college/university.
Minimum of seven years recent experience in environmental compliance in a large industrial, processing or manufacturing environment or corporate environmental department.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to effectively communicate highly technical information. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders including environmental agencies and environmental non-governmental organizations.
Excellent knowledge of and direct experience with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including ability to locate, interpret, and implement regulations in real-world applications.
Direct experience with permit applications, interpretations, and implementation.
Excellent organizational skills and commitment to deadlines
Strong analytical skills and knowledge of data presentation including excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
Preferred experience in energy sector, especially thermal generation.
Preferred experience in Puerto Rico environmental regulations, permits, and requirements.
