This position is responsible for assisting with and/or administering programs that ensure compliance with water related environmental laws, regulations, and permit requirements; providing training and presentations on environmental compliance; interpreting regulations; providing guidance and support to affected facilities or departments; preparing water permit applications and/or reports when needed; conducting and interpreting studies and field investigations; determining compliance status; developing and coordinating compliance programs and plans across multiple departments; and interfacing with regulatory agencies.
This position is critical to maintain the current and expanding level of environmental compliance responsibilities that affect all of Alabama Power Company’s (APC) 14 hydro facilities and 12 reservoirs. This position will support Environmental Affairs in complying with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license requirements and in relicensing activities by reviewing reports, attending public meetings, participating in negotiations, obtaining 401 water quality certifications from ADEM and performing endangered species act consultations. The successful candidate will build relationships with stakeholders and regulatory agencies including but not limited to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Alabama Department of Environmental Management, Environmental Protection Agency, and the Alabama Department of Conservation & Natural Resources. This position may also support APC hydro with shoreline permitting, NPDES permitting, SPCC plans and site inspections, and on call rotation for hydro support. Finally, this position may support implementation of a compliance tracking software for the department.

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology or other relevant field.
Experience, Skills and Abilities
Experience preparing documents and/or demonstrating compliance with regards to National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act (including NPDES, 401 water quality certifications and SPCC), National Historic Preservation Act, and/or other environmental water permitting experience would be a plus.
Results oriented and proactive in maintaining compliance with all environmental laws and regulations.
Ensure compliance by monitoring/evaluating data and working with numerous departments within the company.
Experience with regulatory approval processes.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory agency personnel and with internal customers.
