AES Distributed Energy (AES DE) is currently seeking a Sr. Manager / Manager to lead the internal development team to identify and mitigate environmental risks associated with the development of renewable energy projects, namely the siting, permitting, and operations of said projects. This position will primarily create and execute risk mitigation strategies to navigate permitting for both M&A project opportunities as well as greenfield development projects, along with aiding other development team members when assigned.
Procure required local, state, and federal environmental and land use permits and entitlements needed for construction and operations.
Oversee and provide direction on both permitting and environmental risk assessments, strategies, requirements, and mitigation techniques to facilitate the development of M&A opportunities along with greenfield development projects. Lead negotiations on behalf of the company to navigate permitting and environmental study processes with required agencies to facilitate data collection, permitting issue solutions, and timely permit submittal and preparation.
Continuously research and understand environmental laws, policies, and regulations which could affect development milestones and progress.
Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to local, state, and federal regulatory officials and bodies.
Lead and/or participate in public, stakeholder, and agency relations in support of development and permitting.
Attend various environmental policy forums and meetings on behalf of the company in order to understand and help create renewable energy and environmental policy.
Work with various internal development team-members and environmental policy analysts to develop strategies to successfully navigate all types of environmental permitting processes.
Create documentation outlining all environmental and permitting risks for various projects to aid senior management in making Final Investment Decisions.
Answer environmental and permitting questions from external financing parties on behalf of the company.
Aid internal development teams to craft environmental and permitting risk evaluations as part of potential RFP responses.
Create and manage a vast network of external environmental consultants and contractors who can be deployed to complete various environmental studies and permitting processes.
Record implementation of all regulatory compliance requirements throughout the development and construction of a project

Skills and Qualifications:
Undergraduate Degree in environmental science or studies, environmental engineering, or equivalent.
At least 8-10 (ten) years of relevant experience.
Experience completing and receiving approval from local, state, and federal entities to permit renewable energy projects. This includes but is not limited to correspondence with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, State Historic Preservation Offices, State Siting Boards and PUCs, State Wildlife Agencies, County Siting Boards and other state and county agencies
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required including public speaking and/or platform skills for executive management presentations.

Ability to negotiate successfully with public and various regulatory agencies in order to permit development projects is required
Ability to work with various members of the internal development team
Ability to manage external environmental consultants
Ability to successfully negotiate and produce favorable outcomes
Experience permitting a project which falls within multiple states

Ability to multi-task and work well in a dynamic work environment
Ability to derive easily understandable deliverable from multiple complex sources.
Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% on average.
