County Extension Agent - Agricultural/Natural Resources - Crockett County

Ozona TX

Major/Essential Duties of Job:

Provides leadership for an effective educational program that supports the food and fiber industry, agriculture, natural resources, and 4-H and youth development.

Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating an effective outcome-based program that supports identified issues in Crockett County; responsible for effectively reporting, marketing, and interpreting results of programming efforts.

Develops and works with stakeholder-based committees that provide direction for Extension programs supporting agriculture and natural resources, and 4-H and youth development.

Works with agribusiness and community-based organizations to balance the programming needs of agriculture and youth in the community, and provides leadership for an effective educational program that supports agriculture and 4-H and youth development.

Understands job responsibilities of a county Extension agent and accepts the responsibilities associated with the position.

Occasional Duties: Works under the direct supervision of the District Extension Administrator. Responsible for working cooperatively with other county Extension faculty.

Required Education: Bachelor's degree in a related discipline to the position in which they serve.

Preferred Education: Graduate degree in youth development, education, early childhood, sociology, agriculture, family and consumer science, or field closely related to job responsibilities.

Required Experience: No prior experience is required. NOTE: Urban designated counties require minimum of three years of relevant experience.

Demonstrated ability to integrate technology and information, and knowledge and skills in applying solutions to specific issues identified by county stakeholders.

Preferred Experience: Demonstrated professional and technical competencies in field crop production, cotton, vegetable and pecan production, livestock, range management, agricultural economics, water quality and conservation, and natural resources management are preferred.

Required special knowledge, abilities, and skills: Computer competencies required. Strong service ethic and desire to work with all audiences in assigned county, regardless of socioeconomic level, race, color, sex, religion, disability or national origin. Ability to communicate effectively.

Preferred special knowledge, abilities, and skills: Bilingual (English and Spanish) language skills preferred.

Other requirements or other factors: Travel connected with official duties may be required. This may include attendance at night and/or weekend meetings, participation in out-of-county events. Must have access to personal vehicle and obtain/maintain valid driver's license and appropriate liability insurance. Must have willingness to work necessary hours to fulfill job responsibilities (some evenings and weekends).

Must reside in assigned county.

Comments to Applicants: This is a professional Extension position for individuals interested in a career in strengthening educational program leadership in the area of agriculture and natural resources.

Entry level compensation for Master's degree $40,000, Bachelor's degree $36,000 and successful job performance.
