Assistant Director: Marine Science Education Camp

Awendaw SC

The Sewee Coastal Retreat Center is located in Awendaw, SC (20 miles outside of Charleston) in the middle of the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge.  We run school and camp programs (Camp Sewee in the summer and Expedition Sewee during the school year) on a 40 acre property that borders the Intracoastal Waterway.  We use our surroundings to educate the youth of SC on coastal and island ecology.  You can take a look at our programs at http://www.expeditionsewee.com and http://seweesummer.camp

Programs 75%

-Oversee all on site programs including Expedition Sewee, Camp Sewee, and other specialized programs

-Oversee all on site staff training for Institute personnel

-Provide weekly staff development and training for on site staff

-Teach classes as needed

-Provide assistance in enhancing and developing curriculum

Facilities 20%

-Assist all upkeep of facility through minor maintenance, repairs, cleaning, and improvements at the site

-Maintain orderly and clean program areas and accommodations

-Assess facility and ensure compliance with all applicable ACA and university standards

Administration and Marketing 5%

-Oversee operations of the site including all rentals, facility management, and selected budget areas

-Assist in leading weekly site team meetings

-Increase use of facilities through recruitment of programs and rental groups as needed


-Bachelors Degree in Marine Science, Marine Biology, Biology, Education preferred

-At least 1 year work experience in youth development

-At least 1 year of experience in management preferred

-Excellent leadership and facilitation skills

-Value of building a team and positivity


$23,500 plus room & board (Annually). We will also provide opportunities to work toward certifications to enhance job skills that can be invaluable.
