Horse Livery Trail Guide
Duties: Bring hoses to the barn by 8:30am; inspect all horses for injuries; feed, groom, clean and saddle all horses; clean all tack, stalls, office and barn facilities; unsaddle all horses at 3:30 pm; groom and wash horses' backs off thoroughly; feed all horses; place horses in paddocks following rotation schedule.
Qualifications: ability to meet and work with the public, pleasing personality, ability to count money and make correct change, ability to give directions and provide information, pleasant telephone personality,general knowledge of area surrounding the park, ability to use cash register, preferred experience handling and riding horses.
Hourly wages starting at $8.00 per hour.
Education Spport Specialist I (Park Interpreter)
Duties: Research, develop, promote and present programs for a variety of age groups including guided hikes, canoe and kayak tours, wildlife programs, historical/cultural programs, campfires, children’s programs and other environmental education, recreation activities and outdoor skills. Assist in staffing the camp store and the Visitor Center. May be required to perform park related duties as needed during emergencies or on a non-recurring basis, as well as other duties as assigned. Must provide be willing to work a flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays.
Qualification: One year of college with a major or minor study in a natural sciences or history desirable. Have a basic knowledge of Virginia’s flora and fauna and the ability to plan, organize and conduct tours and programs featuring them. Familiarity with outdoor survival skills and paddling techniques helpful. Must be comfortable with public speaking and providing excellent customer service to the general public. Familiarity with accepted American Red Cross First Aid procedures desirable. Requires standing, bending and walking in the outdoors exposed to the elements. Reliable transportation and a valid Virginia driver’s license required.
