This is a full time, temporary position with Game and Parks that is tentatively scheduled to last until 9/13/2019
Location: Wildcat Hills State Recreations Area - Gering, Nebraska
Examples of Work
Individuals will plan, coordinate, present and evaluate a wide variety of environmental and historical education and outdoor skills programs to a range of audiences. Will transport materials to the areas where programs are presented. These programs may include: outdoor skills (fishing, etc.), natural history (bird watching, insects, mammals, etc.), cultural history (living history, presentations, etc.), other sciences (amateur astronomy, geology, paleontology), guided hikes, night programs, crafts and others. Assist with special events (such as Outdoor Discovery Program, expos, Anniversary Celebrations, etc...), field trips for area schools/classrooms and customer service activities. Perform related work as required.
Qualifications / Requirements
One year of experience working in a recreational area, scenic attraction, hospitality, historical, retail, or customer service setting, or related coursework/training.
PREFERRED: Experience or education in the outdoor activities described above plus some teaching experience and/or experience developing educational/interpretive programs.
OTHER: Must be 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of education principles and practices and the ability to present information to a variety of audiences. Basic knowledge of and strong interest in topics described above. Excellent communication/teaching skills are needed for this position. Applicant must have a willingness to learn about the natural and cultural history of the area parks and environment. Must have a strong desire to share this knowledge with the public through interpretive and educational programming.
