Description

Montgomery Parks seeks a talented and innovative Nature Facility and Program Manager to lead the staff, programs, and facilities at Brookside Nature Center. Brookside Nature Center is in Wheaton, MD and is one of four nature centers managed by Montgomery Parks. Brookside Nature Center provides visitors the opportunity to experience nature and enhance their environmental literacy through interpretive programming, native gardens, trails, and nature play areas.

 

Examples of Important Duties

The successful individual will:

Demonstrates exceptional team leader and management skills and experience supervising staff, interns, and volunteers;

Proactively work to build community and generate support around the nature center;

Build relationships with various community agencies, non-profits, leaders, and appropriate stakeholders; promoting collaboration to fulfill broader causes.

Promote environmental literacy among County residents and ensure the highest quality in educational programs and guest experience to reflect the mission of the nature centers and Montgomery Parks;

Demonstrate extensive skill and experience in the development and delivery of informal interpretive programs for all ages as well as environmental education and science-based programming to meet curriculum standards for school;

Ensure that the highest level of standards are met with live animal care and management;

Capitalize on revenue generating opportunities with an entrepreneurial spirit to supplement the operating budget;

Ensure that budget, personnel management, and other administrative functions are carried out effectively and according to Commission policies.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in natural, life, physical science, or related field; and four years of progressively responsible park naturalist experience; or

An equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Supplemental Information

Working conditions include considerable pressure to meet deadlines and working occasional weekends and evenings.
