The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County, Parks and Recreation, Natural and Historical Resources Division has an opening for a Park Naturalist to be located at the Watkins Nature Center, 301 Watkins Park Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774. This is a part-time year-round position. This position pays at a rate of $11.75/hr to $14.50/hr dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Examples of Important Duties
Provides interpretive programs using various sensory aids, handouts, demonstrations, oral presentations and other methods appropriate to the subject. Responds to questions, explaining the natural processes involved in the subject.
Provides daily animal care, feeding, and maintenance to live animal collection including insects, reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and birds. Administers medication when needed. Handles animals during routine care and during presentations/ public programs.
Monitors buildings and grounds to ensure safety, security and cleanliness of facilities. Maintains and make minor repairs to exhibits, gardens, and trails.
Greets visitors and answer questions and requests in, via phone and/or email. Register participants for programs and operates gift shop cash, utilizing RecTrac software (training in RecTrac software to be provided upon employment)
Assists with summer day camp activities and programs.
Preferred candidates will possess;
Knowledge of the natural or life sciences acquired through level course work
Experience working with children and the public
Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions and hike trails with uneven terrain
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Valid Driver's License
