Park Interpreter - Education Support Specialist I

Woodstock VA

Salary: $14.14 /hour

 

Seven Bends State Park is looking for an outgoing, energetic, and responsible individual for working with a wide variety of guests as part of Seven Bend's educational programming. Position provides meaningful educational opportunities and experiences for park guests by interpreting the significance of the park's natural/historical/and cultural resources. The Education Support Specialist is responsible for the daily planning and conducting of interpretive programs and educational outreach, including corresponding with the general public, schools, scout groups etc. about programming. The Education Support Specialist assists with the development of the interpretive program schedule and planning special events. Other duties include maintaining all interpretive resources and ensuring they are in good working order, assisting with planning and preparing for volunteer projects and workshops, creating new programs, working with other local organizations to diversify programming, writing blogs, posting photos to Flickr, attending professional development workshops and seminars, obtaining facilitator certification in curriculum guides, assisting park visitors using good customer service techniques, and maintaining accurate records.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must have the ability to organize and conduct nature, cultural and historical programs for all ages; be able to write out program descriptions; respond to emails; professionally interact with the public. Knowledge, education, or experience in Virginia history or natural sciences is preferred, but not required. Demonstrated ability to used Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and Google Applications preferred, but not required. Applicant must be able to work cooperatively with other staff and park guests in a team environment. Required to work shift work, weekends, and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

 

This is a 1500 hour position that will work 20-32 hours a week. There are no benefits or retirement with this position. This position may require working days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
