Position Summary
A Cultural Resources Technical Lead (hereafter Technical Lead) position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). The Technical Lead will be a key member of a group of interdisciplinary specialists that collect and analyze information and resources regarding potential impacts of climate change on cultural resources to help inform adaptation planning for military installations. This position is located at Colorado State University’s (CSU) main campus in Fort Collins, Colorado. Telework arrangements may be considered but are subject to being modified or discontinued.
As part of an interdisciplinary team of social and natural scientists, this position will provide cultural resources technical expertise to conduct analyses of climate change vulnerabilities of cultural resources. In addition, this position will assist with cultural resources management planning and advise on climate change adaptation strategies. These activities require collection and analysis of large amounts of supporting data and information from complex studies; preparation and review of required documents/reports; interfacing with multiple offices, specialists, and Subject-Matter-Experts. This position will be responsible for developing, reviewing and editing climate change reports and identifying relevant information for integration into Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plans (ICRMPs). As such, excellent scientific synthesis, writing, and communication skills are required.
The Technical Lead will provide technical expertise for the development and review of documents, including ICRMPs, National Environmental Policy Act analyses, climate change impact assessments and mitigation strategies, GIS data/maps, and other cultural resources-related documents. This position will collaborate with Department of Defense (DoD) cultural resources managers to review the goals, objectives, and projects in ICRMPs and develop recommendations that are both scientifically sound and guided by regulations or mission drivers. Therefore, an understanding of cultural resources management on military lands is a critical component of this position.
This position will hire and supervise additional staff, as needed, to complete project requirements. This position will develop timelines to achieve project milestones, assign tasks, coordinate with other planning and climate assessment activities, and ensure that work is completed as required. Sustainability Policy Analyst & Engagement Coordinator
Salary range: $53,940 – $70,000 annualized
This is a mayoral-appointed position in a challenging work environment requiring strong analysis and engagement skills to help coordinate and implement the City’s response to the climate emergency and sustainability. Special focus is on addressing the health and economic impacts of climate change on already distressed populations from COVID-19 and other factors.
This position reports to the Executive Director of Sustainability and focuses on engagement and implementation of the City’s program portfolio for addressing climate and sustainability issues, building on the Climate and Sustainability Framework. The position will focus on the impact of the climate emergency not only on City operations but also the broad community in balancing the City’s shared objectives for a healthy environment, an excellent quality of life, and continued economic vitality.
REQUIREMENTS include:
Graduation from an accredited college or university; preference for concentration in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Management, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Architecture or a related field. Ability to communicate in Spanish and GIS skills are a plus but are not required. Experience in outreach and/or organizing is a plus.
Must also possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:Strong knowledge and commitment to tackling the challenges of climate change particularly for vulnerable communities.

Salary range: $57,188 – $85,000 annualized
This is a mayoral-appointed management position in a challenging work environment requiring strong administrative skills to direct and coordinate resources in addressing climate and other environmental sustainability policies and practices in the City of New Haven. Special focus is on addressing the health and economic impacts of climate change on already distressed populations from COVID-19 and other factors.
This position reports directly to the Mayor and Chief of Staff and will provide a key new role in working not only with New Haven city departments, but also with community members and organizations to help manage a city-wide climate emergency and sustainability portfolio. The position may also report to other individuals in the organization as designated by the Mayor and/or Chief of Staff. The position will focus on the impact of the climate emergency not only on City operations but also the broad community in balancing the City’s shared objectives for a healthy environment, an excellent quality of life, and continued economic vitality.

The Positions:
The Deputy Director will engage, develop and implement a public policy program that supports departmental and organizational goals. They will plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of the Policy, Outreach and Data unit in the respective department. The Deputy Director will lead the development of policies and strategies that contemplate multiple stakeholder perspectives such as the community, environment, industry, economy, social/community, and legislative trends, industry best practices, data evaluation and analysis, best practice research, benchmarking, and community engagement and feedback. The Deputy Director will lead increased engagement with the community, stakeholders, regulators, other jurisdictions, and customers on department programs and projects and coordinate increased translated resources and services.
The Deputy Director will oversee departmental implementation of Board of Supervisors’ initiatives and priorities, Board letter coordination, and provide policy briefings to elected officials and their staff and public presentations. They will oversee policy research and development specific to departmental services, areas of responsibility, and regulations and provide recommendations to Department Directors.
The Deputy Director will be responsible for the department’s effective community and stakeholder engagement by ensuring outreach plans and communication plans are developed for projects. Working closely with technical experts, they will oversee the implementation of Community Needs Assessments for their department’s programs and initiatives and enact alignment with the Board of Supervisors’ policy actions and priorities. They will formulate recommendations and strategies on how to navigate complex issues, bringing multiple stakeholders and differing perspectives to the table for feedback and collaboration. They will maintain a global view of emerging industry trends and legislative proposals, and they will integrate data from many sources, look beyond regulatory program data points, and coordinate and communicate regularly with all POD staff in each department, department leadership, the LUEG Policy Director and enterprise community engagement and data analysis staff. The Deputy Director will work and collaborate with LUEG Executive Office staff, Group Communications Officer, Director of Policy, Group Program Manager of Outreach and Engagement, and between departments.
