Position Summary:
This role is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to ensure environmental compliance relative to operations. Researches and assesses facility operations for regulatory applicability, including in air, water, soil, and waste. This position is based in Sheboygan Falls, WI, and will primarily focus on the Sheboygan Falls location with the expectation to work with satellite global locations to ensure environmental compliance at those facilities as well.

Specific Responsibilities:
*Manage Sheboygan Falls, WI, environmental compliance at the federal, state, and local level in air, water, soil, and waste.
*Advise on Bemis global location environmental compliance, pulling in outside expertise as needed.
*Inspect industrial facilities and programs in order to evaluate operational effectiveness and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
*Develop site-specific protocols, such as spill contingency plans and methods for loading and transporting waste.
*Prepare, review, and update environmental investigation and recommendation reports.
*Obtain, update, and maintain plans, permits, and standard operating procedures.
*Monitor progress of environmental improvement programs.
*Provide support for projects by collecting data, providing project documentation, training staff, and performing other general administrative duties.
*Support data collection for environmental compliance and for sustainability metrics.
*Recommend systemization and simplification opportunities for data collection, documentation, and auditing.
*Develop proposed project objectives and targets, and report to management on progress in attaining them.
*Assess the existing or potential environmental impact of land use projects on air, water, and land.
*Develop and present environmental compliance training.
*Develop, implement, and manage plans and programs related to conservation and management of natural resources.
*Communicate with people outside the organization, representing the organization to our customers, our community, the public, government, and other external sources.

Skills & Qualifications:
*Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or environmental science or a related field or sufficient relevant experience.

Government Affairs Manager

Western Resource Advocates (WRA) is hiring a Government Affairs Manager to join our team in New Mexico. Responsibilities And Activities

Work collaboratively with WRA’s program and communications staff to develop and implement public policy advocacy efforts with legislative and administrative decision makers in the state

In coordination with program staff, read and analyze the potential impact of proposed legislation and administrative policies

Monitor and track relevant state and local policies, rules, and regulations
Frequent travel to state capital during legislative session

Required Qualifications

Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position, will be considered. For example, the requisite expereince, knowledge, skills, and abilities would include:

A minimum of 4-years proven experience developing and executing strategic government affairs, external affairs, communications, and/or advocacy campaigns

Environmental & Energy Specialist

As an Environmental & Energy Specialist, you will be responsible for leading the environmental and energy program at the Flagstaff factory to ensure compliance through monitoring, measuring, analyzing, reporting and management of permits. You will partner with internal and external sustainability experts to identify improvement opportunities aligned with Nestlé’s Net Zero by 2050 strategy. To attain this sustainability strategy, you will champion measures to reduce waste and minimize environmental impact while increasing efficiency. You will identify, develop, justify and oversee improvement projects to ensure environmental compliance and align with company goals.

Maintain ISO 14001 certification and continuously improve the environmental management system for the factory
Oversee the management of waste in compliance with Zero Waste to Landfill guidelines

Role Overview:

The Regulatory Environmental Lead Expert oversees the preparation of federal, state, and local environmental documents, and ensures that the environmental permitting of EDPR NA’s projects meets the company’s internal standards and pertinent regulatory requirements as well as provides strategic direction to the company regarding environmental matters.

Staff Attorney, Environmental Justice

L4GG is looking for a self-motivated and passionate staff attorney to expand its growing Climate Change and Environmental Justice (CCEJ) Program impact fighting for climate justice and addressing climate change. The Staff Attorney, Environmental Justice will support our efforts to assist local and state governments in switching to renewable energy and will help provide direct legal assistance to communities that have been directly impacted by climate change and/or who face environmental injustice issues. This position will report to the Director of the Climate Change and Environmental Justice Program and will work closely with the Director of Pro Bono Initiatives and the CCEJ Program Coordinator. Specifically, this person will assist the Director of the CCEJ Program to run the Program’s Climate and Environmental Justice Initiative and help to manage L4GG’s first in the nation Decarbonization and Climate Resilience Funding Clinic (The Clinic), working on policy initiatives and direct services to communities to help leverage historic federal funding to implement clean energy, climate resilience, access to clean drinking water, impacts to wetlands, and environmental justice projects in areas that are most vulnerable to climate change. The Clinic currently represents clients across the nation, including in Florida, Indiana, Ohio, Georgia, Michigan, Illinois, and Guam. This position will involve researching, drafting, and reviewing applicable laws in connection with representing clients in the Clinic to promote clean energy, climate justice, and access to clean, affordable drinking water, protection of wetlands and water resources, managing teams of pro bono attorneys and handling case management to provide top flight service to our community clients, reviewing legal resources prepared by L4GG volunteers, working with the Director of Bono Initiatives to manage and direct volunteers, and working directly with the Director to help support the overall CCEJ Program.

The person who succeeds in this role will have experience: a) designing and implementing attorney training, b) researching new areas of cutting-edge law and policy related to clean energy, climate resilience, and water issues, c) managing teams of pro bono attorneys, d) handling case management and legal strategies in coordination with expert attorneys and community clients; e) working directly with frontline communities; f) working with renewable energy, climate resilience, and/or water projects, including projects like community solar, and g) relevant state-level energy policies. The ideal candidate will have the ability to quickly learn and manage digital tools and new state level energy policies, initiative and flexibility to help us build out the program, and an aptitude for working well in start-up environments. This is an opportunity for an experienced person to play a key role in a dynamic start-up nonprofit.

Specific Job Responsibilities include:

Environmental Lawyering (60%):
Provide support to the existing Clinic clients, including managing legal teams to provide legal resources and guidance to Funding Clinic clients and helping them identify the tools, funding, and options available to help them implement ambitious decarbonization and climate resilience projects.
Research on relevant laws relating to clean energy and clean water projects in the applicable jurisdiction.
Support L4GG’s initiative to provide legal guidance surrounding grant eligibility, opportunities, and/or other legal funding restrictions that have arisen out of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act to our Clinic clients, in coordination with CCEJ’s Clean Energy Staff Attorney and the Director.
Coordinate with our coalition partners to share resources to other similarly situated communities.
Manage attorney teams and work closely with the CCEJ Program Coordinator on client interviews and intake as the Clinic expands.
Work with the CCEJ Program Coordinator to help create systems to scale the impact of our client work, sharing legal resources with other similarly-situated communities.
Work with grassroots partner organizations to directly assist vulnerable communities disproportionately impacted by climate change. Examples include:
Working with Indiana Conference of the NAACP to ensure the equitable rollout of EV Infrastructure;
Working with the Florida Food Policy Center to help build out legal protocols for disaster response and climate resilience
Working with a nonprofit in Guam to help establish energy democracy and allow for more self-sustainability to plan for future climate disasters..
Support L4GG’s future work with Great Lakes Environmental Law Center (GLELC) and other coalition partners to ensure access to clean, affordable drinking water in Michigan for all communities.
Coordinate with Director, Pro Bono Initiatives to manage pro bono attorneys in climate change research and analysis.
Environmental Policy Advocacy (40%):
Closely follow and track changes in relevant environmental policies and case law, including USSC decisions and state policies that impact protections of wetlands and waters, including under the Clean Water Act in addition to others.
Draft research products combining research from our pro bono partners with your own legal and policy analyses, conducting additional legal research as necessary.
Work in coalition with diverse groups including national policy groups, state and local, grassroots and community organizations, and our community of attorney advocates in order to achieve our shared goals. Serve as a legal/policy expert in coalitions with external partners on issues of environmental justice and community engagement policy.
Advance L4GG’s administrative and legislative advocacy on climate change by providing legal analysis and technical assistance to L4GG Policy and Communications staff; government officials and staff; the media; organizers; and advocates and attorneys nationwide. Provide support to other staff on issues of subject-matter expertise.
Coordinate with our communications and development team to amplify our work and support fundraising efforts to further expand the program.
Other duties as assigned, which could include some scheduling and case management and management of the CCEJ Program Coordinator’s work to support the Clinic.

REQUIREMENTS:

Junior Researcher (Climate Justice Data Specialist)

This position is administered by the University of Hawai’i Sea Grant College Program on behalf of the Hawai’i Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission (CCMAC). CCMAC was identified as the lead agency on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant. CCMAC is the coordinating body on climate action in the State. CCMAC recognizes the urgency of climate threats and the need to act quickly. It promotes ambitious, climate-neutral, culturally responsive strategies for climate change adaptation and mitigation in a manner that is CLEAN, EQUITABLE, & RESILIENT.

Hawai’i leads by example in mitigating climate change. Through the Senate Concurrent Resolution 44 SD1 HD1, Hawai’i recognized that the climate crisis endangers the health, safety, and welfare of the people; and that preemptive and protective action is needed. The resolution requested statewide entities to pursue climate mitigation and adaption efforts and endorsed “a statewide commitment to a just transition toward a decarbonized economy…â€. Hawai’i also set an economy-wide net negative target by 2045, which means that the State is committed “to sequester more atmospheric carbon and greenhouse gases than emitted within the State as quickly as practicable, but no later than 2045â€. The development of a decarbonization strategy led by the Hawai’i State Energy Office is underway and represents a unique opportunity for the state to further define and implement its next steps to achieve the net-zero target.

To achieve this result, this project aims to address climate change measures within the state of Hawai’i by supporting and coordinating the various participating agencies and specifically addressing underserved communities. The state has recognized that the climate crisis endangers the health, safety, and welfare of the people, and that preemptive and protective action is needed. Hawai’i also set an economy-wide net negative target by 2045 in which, the state has agreed to sequester more greenhouse gasses (GHG) than it produces.

Working in collaboration with a number of state and county government agencies and committees, the project will provide transparency and accountability through outreach opportunities (i.e. community gatherings and events) and encourage community engagement throughout the project timeline. Additionally, the project will provide foundational support in coordinating tasks and groups, tracking and budgeting progress, and supporting the CCMAC Coordinator in developing the Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) and Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP).

Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities and primary functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

Research: Conducts climate, environmental and social justice research to identify definitions and actions to mitigate injustices. Performs program planning, monitoring, and analysis. Manages and monitors climate justice project implementation and strategies to improve equity across the state.
Data Management: Create and manage the development of a GIS mapping tool that incorporates multiple datasets. Oversees data management and user interface.
Outreach: Plans and coordinates program activities, events, campaigns, outreach, and informational materials. Travels to events and meetings. Conducts related trainings and outreach for partners to support climate justice efforts.
Recommendations: Researches and reviews recommendations made by the scientific community, and creates recommendations for environmental justice actions at the policy and practitioner level.
Evaluation: Conducts and coordinates the accurate representation of disadvantaged and underserved populations. Develops and manages analysis and assessment plans for environmental goals.
Writes and edits proposals, technical reports, and climate justice planning documents. Develops fact sheets and other written materials.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing, with major work in Public Administration, Public Policy, Law, Social Science, Social Work, Communications, Climatology, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Justice or related fields.
Working knowledge of GIS mapping, data management, climate change and environmental justice.
Knowledge of research methodology, including data collection, analysis, and reporting; budgeting and accounting practices and principles.
Knowledge of county and state vulnerability and equity mapping efforts.
Ability to speak and write clearly and concisely.
Proficient in ARC GIS and database management.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Hydrofluorocarbons Policy Fellow

NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet’s wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our people helped write some of America’s bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act and many of the implementing regulations. NRDC is seeking a Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) Policy Fellow to work with the Climate & Clean Energy Program team in our Washington, D.C. or New York office.

Position Summary

The HFCs Policy Fellow will support NRDC’s Non-CO2 Climate Pollution Reduction Advocate to execute NRDC’s domestic and international strategy for the successful implementation of the global phasedown of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), a powerful class of non-CO2 greenhouse gases. The HFCs Policy Fellow will also support inquiries into opportunities to address other non-CO2 greenhouse gases such as nitrous oxide (a large and uncontrolled source of emissions) as well as other fluorinated highly potent greenhouse gases such as sulfur hexafluoride and perfluorocarbons.

This is a two-year fellowship ending on September 26, 2025.
Responsibilities

The Policy Fellow will support NRDC’s domestic and international strategy to implement and accelerate the global phasedown of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). This person will work under the guidance of the Non-CO2 Climate Pollution Reduction Advocate and the Technical Director for Industry and Emerging Technologies to do the following:

In the United States:

At the federal level, assist in engaging with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on regulatory actions to phase down the production and consumption of HFCs; reduce demand for HFCs in new equipment; and better manage HFCs from the existing installed base of HFC-using equipment.
At the state level, assist in engaging with stakeholders to champion updated building codes for climate-friendly HFC alternatives.
In coordination with NRDC’s agriculture team, help assess the opportunity for NRDC to engage on nitrous oxide and other non-CO2 greenhouse gases and identify the path forward.
Assist in identifying and pursuing new opportunities to support and accelerate the global phasedown of HFCs, including through coalition-building, thought leadership, strategic communications, and research and analysis to fill information gaps.
Support assessments of climate-friendly alternatives to HFCs in a variety of sectors.
Support NRDC representatives at various fora, help convene experts, and organize side-events.

Qualifications

Commitment to NRDC’s mission and values and passion for advocating for the public interest.
2-5 years of working experience in policy advocacy and/or a related technical field required.
A bachelor’s degree in a related discipline(s) including public policy, law, engineering or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience engaging in policy advocacy.
Familiarity with HFCs, nitrous oxide or other non-CO2 greenhouse gases.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to understand and analyze scientific, legal, and policy matters for advocacy purposes.
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
Flexibility to travel 5-10% annually.

Preferred

Demonstrated ability to identify, and pursue, research and analysis to fill information gaps in order to enhance advocacy.
Experience engaging with industry, U.S. federal and/or state environmental protection agencies, and other NGOs.
Experience in federal and/or international advocacy.
Familiarity with international environmental treaty forums such as the Montreal Protocol.
