Stewardship Coordinator

Oregon Natural Desert Association (ONDA) is a nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to protecting, defending and restoring Oregon’s high desert.

The Stewardship Coordinator works collaboratively with ONDA’s Stewardship Program Director and Restoration Manager to develop and implement habitat restoration projects in central and eastern Oregon and engage volunteers in hands-on activities. This position requires traveling and working outdoors in remote locations for approximately 80-120 days per year, as well as working in an office environment. The ideal candidate will be energized by leading groups of volunteers, enjoy working outdoors, thrive in a collaborative environment working with diverse partners and colleagues, have outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, and be eager to learn and grow their skills in ecological restoration and stewardship.

This is a full time position with a starting annual salary range between $53,000 to $65,000 per year, depending on experience. ONDA provides a flexible hybrid office-home work environment and full benefits package.

Ecologist

The Division of Environment and Planning aims to protect, restore, and expand New York City Parks including green spaces and natural areas to maximize their benefits for environmental and community health and resilience. The Natural Resources Group’s mission is to protect, restore, expand, and manage New York City’s over 12,000 acres of natural spaces and green infrastructure across the five boroughs, including forests, grasslands and wetlands.

Major Responsibilities

– Under the direction of Senior Staff in the Division of Environment and Planning leads ecological and environmental monitoring in the City’s subtidal estuaries, streams, shorelines, tidal and freshwater wetlands.
– Manage an up-to-date inventory of field equipment, ensuring equipment is functioning and organized.
– Conduct monitoring and data collection in support of restoration and management. Support development of study design as needed. Data collection includes, but is not limited to, implementing appropriate methods for: vegetation monitoring, including plant identification, percent cover estimates and plant measurements (density, stem height, stem diameter); wetland delineations, vegetation mapping, bio benchmarks; elevation monitoring using surveying equipment (e.g. RTK GPS); soil/sediment sampling and basic soil analysis; and water level monitoring (e.g. deployment of water level loggers, such as HOBO or similar).
– Manage, enter, and analyze field data, and maintain organized and accurate files.
– Compile, analyze and interpret data and present results. Summarize and interpret monitoring data and provide recommendations for adaptive management and restoration designs based on results and lessons learned.
– Support senior staff in evaluating the effects of restoration and adaptive management actions on natural resources.
– Coordinate within the Agency to ensure necessary resources and materials are available and adaptive management and maintenance actions are completed. Lead or support the implementation of those actions as needed.
– Prepare clear environmental compliance monitoring reports of restoration sites for regulatory agencies.
– Assist in preparing wetland and stormwater permit applications for state and federal regulatory agencies.
– Use software, including but not limited to R studio and ArcGIS to map, visualize and analyze data.
– Supervise interns and junior staff in tasks related to data collection, entry and analysis.
– Manage a variety of ecological restoration or monitoring and assessment projects as needed.
– Facilitate work of partner organizations, including monitoring and permitting support and relationship building.
– Prepare maps, figures, and final reports to submit to the public, funders, internal staff and regulatory agencies.

Minimum Qualifications

1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least a master’s degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in “2” above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in “1” and “2” above.

Park Land Management Technician

Job Summary

Works individually or with a crew to assist with Park Land Management projects and activities for land owned or managed by Travis County Parks Division. Assists in the maintenance of facilities, vehicles, and equipment and the implementation of prescribed burning, mechanical thinning, invasive species control, trail maintenance, vegetation monitoring, and other land management activities.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the first in a series of three Park Land Management related job classifications within the Professional Support job family. This classification is distinguished from other classifications by entry level of work required. This classification may require a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of the department

Duties and Responsibilities

Assists with fire management projects including planning, monitoring, preparation, coordination, and implementation; maintains fire qualifications.
Participates in the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aide System (TIFMAS) for mutual aid response to statewide disasters such as wildfires, severe weather, and floods.
Coordinates and supports local disaster response including wildfires, severe weather, and floods in cooperation with local response agencies and other stakeholders.

Collaborates with contractors, park staff, and partners in the planning and implementation of land management activities.
Operates heavy equipment, 4-WD vehicles, utility vehicles, chainsaws, power tools, and hand tools.

Assists in the collection, management, and display of data through work order systems, GIS applications, and other platforms. Maintains and updates maps, spreadsheets, and related work products.

Assists with the development and presentation of training, safety and outreach programs to park staff, partners, and the public.
Serves as an advisor and consultant for County parks and staff on a variety of land management issues.

Vegetation Manager

The purpose of this position is to provide oversight and advanced technical assistance, training and analysis related to complex City planning initiatives and land development applications related to preservation, site plan development, inspections, and enforcement of all aspects of vegetation. This lead worker role will take on some supervisory functions and play a critical part in providing a proactive approach to balancing urban development with the preservation of green spaces, Collaborating closely with urban planners and developers to integrate trees into new construction projects and create harmonious landscapes that benefit both residents and the environment. This collaborative approach helps maintain healthy tree populations within urban areas while accommodating necessary infrastructure improvements. This position is supervised by the Director of Planning and Development Services.

Watershed Conservation Field Technician Crew Leader

The Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay (Alliance) is a regional nonprofit organization whose vision is clean streams and rivers flowing through resilient landscapes, cared for by the people who live, work, and play in the Chesapeake Bay watershed; and whose mission is to bring together communities, companies, and conservationists to improve our lands and waters.

Job Description: This position will work on the Alliance’s Forests Team on a wide range of reforestation, biological monitoring, and outreach projects in Pennsylvania. It will involve extensive fieldwork and outreach including: planting, monitoring, and maintaining tree planting projects; performing biological surveys on birds, insects, and plants; meeting with landowners; and training and overseeing volunteers. The Crew Leader will oversee up to 5 Watershed Conservation Field Technicians in the field and have some additional related administrative responsibilities. Candidates can expect a fast-paced work environment and a roughly 90/10 fieldwork/office work ratio, so field savviness is essential. The position requires strong organizational and time management skills, careful attention to detail, and the ability to form strong relationships and work collaboratively with a variety of audiences.

Watershed Forester

The Watershed Agricultural Council, a non-profit organization working to protect the NYC Watershed, while supporting farm and forest land uses, is seeking a Watershed Forester. The Watershed Forester ensures the protection and enhancement of water quality and the economic viability of the working forest landscape in the New York City water supply system by overseeing programs that provide technical assistance, financial incentives, and educational support for loggers, landowners, and foresters. This position reports to the Forestry Program Manager.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum B.S. in forestry, silviculture, ecology, or related natural resources field.

Associate Director, River Restoration

The Associate Director of River Restoration will lead American Rivers’ efforts to grow the practice of dam removal as a tool for river restoration, aquatic connectivity, and public safety. The position will be responsible for building successful aquatic connectivity programs and partnerships, developing and implementing dam removal projects, and supporting efforts to strengthen state and federal programs to advance aquatic connectivity across the states that comprise the American Rivers’ Great Lakes Region—Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

This position offers a meaningful opportunity to gain expertise and grow as a leader in the field of dam removal and river restoration. The successful candidate will have the initiative to identify and develop dam removal projects, while also leading efforts to strategically build regional capacity in partnership with nonprofit, municipal, state, federal, and Tribal entities. They must demonstrate strong initiative, strategic thinking, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. The position will be responsible for the region’s role in reaching American Rivers’ national goal of removing 30,000 dams and reopening 300,000 river miles by 2050.

The position will report to the Great Lakes Region and be an active member of American Rivers’ Dam Removal Community of Practice, our national collaboration of staff working to scale dam removal. The Associate Director will receive direct mentoring and oversight from senior staff within the Dam Removal Program, ensuring alignment with national strategies and best practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Five or more years of applicable professional experience in the conservation field, related to river restoration, aquatic connectivity, dam removal, fisheries habitat, geomorphology, hydrology and/or engineering
Understanding of effective river restoration approaches, including demonstrated interest in advancing the practice of dam removal
Prior experience in securing funding from government grants, foundations, and/or major donors to complete projects and sustain programs
Demonstrated experience and strength in the following areas: project management, verbal

The salary range for this position is $73,200-89,400, annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Manager, Working Lands

Audubon South Carolina has a robust working lands program that includes hands on management of more than 30,000 acres of Audubon owned/managed forests, grasslands, and wetlands. Audubon SC also works extensively with private and public land managers and owners in the forested and agricultural landscapes of the state to implement land management practices that enhance habitat for priority birds while promoting flood and climate resilience. Reporting to the Director of Land Conservation, and collaborating closely with other teams, the Working Lands Program Manager will be charged with leading landowner outreach and technical assistance efforts across South Carolina in support of Audubon’s habitat management goals by supporting programs funded by the Forest Service, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and other targeted grants. The position will have a specific focus on priority landscapes identified by Audubon scientists based on land attributes such as carbon, connectivity, and demographic data. The Program Manager will also collaborate with Audubon colleagues, chapter members, and volunteers—as well as conservation allies and partner organizations — to advance the goals and objectives of Audubon’s Flight Plan.

The ideal candidate is an effective project manager with experience fostering collaborative partnerships and/or coalitions related to land management and/or conservation. They are also a creative thinker and inclusive team player, who approaches their work with a commitment to mutual respect and a desire and willingness to learn as much as to teach. The standard workweek is 40 hours, Monday through Friday, however, occasional weekend work is to be expected. This is a remote position based in South Carolina. This Manager may work remotely and/or at one of our offices in Columbia, Charleston, Silver Bluff Sanctuary (Jackson), or Beidler Forest Center and Sanctuary (Harleyville). Frequent travel is expected throughout the state including but not limited to the lowcountry, midlands, and the upstate and around our sanctuaries and project areas.

Land Conservation Specialist

The Land Conservation Specialist position is responsible for managing the County’s Land Conservation and Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) Program and related aspects. This position provides technical expertise and policy guidance to County staff, elected officials, and landowners. This position also provides an oversight of program funding, and recommendations for program improvements and expansion. Does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision.

The hiring range for this position is from $76,044.80 to $104,561.60 based on experience.

Beaver Restoration Project Manager/Senior Project Manager

Trout Unlimited (TU) brings together diverse interests to care for and recover the rivers and streams on which we all depend. We are a national organization with 300,000 members and supporters organized into over 400 chapters and councils nationwide. Our dedicated grassroots volunteers are matched by a respected staff of organizers, lawyers, policy experts, and scientists, who work out of more than 25 offices across the country.

The Wenatchee-Entiat Beaver Project was established in 2018 to provide technical assistance, education, and support to the communities of Washington’s Chelan and Douglas counties to help resolve human-beaver conflicts through coexistence and relocation.

Position Summary

TU seeks to hire a self-motivated and highly capable person to implement restoration projects to benefit aquatic resources and native wild fish populations in Upper Columbia Basin watersheds in Washington State. Depending on experience, the position may be titled Project Manager or Senior Project Manager.

The Beaver Restoration Project Manager will work closely with the Beaver Coexistence and Relocation Specialist and Restoration Program Director to implement TU’s beaver-based restoration program in the Upper Columbia watershed. A successful candidate will be self-motivated, well organized, and capable of completing assigned duties safely and efficiently, conducting work professionally as a public representative of TU, and working well with a team having diverse backgrounds and personalities. The primary duty stations will be the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery in Leavenworth, WA and the TU office in Wenatchee, WA.

Competitive candidates for this position will need to demonstrate strong project management skills and technical abilities related to stream restoration, grant writing and management, hydrology, ecology, and partnership-building. The successful applicant manages projects and works with TU staff and partners to secure additional funding for project activities, conceptualize and develop new projects, and functions as part of the team, assisting other staff as necessary. The Beaver Restoration Specialist will be expected to manage projects from conception to completion including managing grants and budgets, as well as contracts, and be a leader in project-oriented habitat restoration and conservation.

Requirements

A minimum of 3-7 years relevant work experience and a college degree in fisheries, wildlife, biology, water resources, natural resources, engineering, or similar field. Years of experience and skills will assist in matching candidates with the job level.
Experience using GPS and mapping tools to navigate and develop project sites, and comfort working long hours in remote settings and under difficult conditions.
Experience with project development, implementation, and management including projects that involve development, partner coordination, securing funding, managing budgets, and reporting.
Capable of simultaneously managing multiple complex projects with multiple funding agreements, including strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Understanding of restoration project construction and management, engineering design concepts, data analysis and management
Experience with project permitting for aquatic restoration projects and in-water work
Knowledge of low-tech process-based restoration principles, methods, and practices
