Environmental Education Coordinator

Fort Meyers, FL 

The Environmental Education Coordinator coordinates and manages the day-to-day program and administrative operations within the Center for Environment and Society. Assists in the development, implementation and assessment of environmental education and professional development programs for diverse audiences.

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates and manages the day-to-day program and administrative operations of Center for Environment and Society.
    Participates in the development and implementation of academic programs to achieve program/department objectives.
    Collaborates with administrators in the development, implementation, documentation, and enforcement of department/program policies and procedures.
    Delivers online and in-person professional development sessions for formal and non-formal educators.
    Develops, administers and analyzes continuous assessment of academic programs and strategic goals to assess and report growth and effectiveness. Prepares and evaluates statistical, analytical, and narrative reports to be used for decision making and program improvement.
    Identifies opportunities for improvement that enable the program to achieve its strategic goals. Makes recommendations for improvement of outcomes, including quantitative and qualitative analysis.
    Advises and collaborates with campus partners to provide students with resources, support, referral, and advocacy.
    Develops budget recommendations and assists with developing activities and services budget requests.
    Monitors and complies with all fiscal expenditures and guidelines in accordance with university policies and procedures.
    Plans and coordinates community outreach events, seminars, presentations, and workshops, for youth and adults, that support academic achievement strategic goals.

Other Duties:

  • Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates OPS and part-time student employees. Maintains work schedules, timesheets, and payroll action forms.
    Serves on department as well as cross-campus committees for special event planning and programming
    Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Environmental Education, Education, Environmental/Marine Science, or closely related field.
    Two years of professional full-time experience in administrative support, program planning, academic support, advising, K-12 teaching, environmental and or/science education, and/or scientific research communication.
    Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
    Experience operating personal computers with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Environmental Education, Education, Environmental/Marine Science, or closely related field.
    Three years of professional full-time experience in administrative support, program planning, academic support, advising, K-12 teaching, environmental and or/science education, and/or scientific research communication.
    Experience in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of C-Palms and Next Generation Science Standards.
    Knowledge of budget control principles, practices and procedures.
    Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership, and coordination of people and resources.
    Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures and an ability to interpret and apply consistently.
    Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
    Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
    Skill in developing and delivering standards-aligned curricula, lessons and training resources for diverse audiences.
    Skill in training and professional development for K-12 teachers.
    Skill in online, classroom, and field teaching and instruction.
    Skill in learner assessment and program evaluation.
    Ability to thrive in an organization that values the diversity of its student body and workforce and actively promotes equity and inclusion.
    Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in confidential matters.
    Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, business partners and the public in a service oriented manner.
    Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
    Ability to think critically and make clear, well-reasoned and timely decisions.
    Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and communicate data in a clear and concise format.

    Ability to coordinate, organize, and manage details of special events and projects.
    Ability to routinely travel to and work at sites around Southwest Florida.
