The Opportunity…

The Marketing and Communications Director works with other Managers and the Executive Director to design and implement GRID’s marketing and communication strategy to help position GRID as a leader in renewable energy access throughout the Inland Empire region. This role is responsible for communicating with the community at large to obtain more support. Reach out to new businesses, vendors, officials, the public at large to educate, engage, and excite them about the great work GRID is doing and expand our brand presence. A successful candidate will be a skilled storyteller with a strong track record in digital communications and content creation, and a passion for renewable energy and environmental justice.

  • Lead GRID’s email communications efforts, including newsletters
    Support friend- and fund-raising campaigns
    Collaborate with the headquarters and organization-wide communication team to develop and execute multi-channel digital campaigns
    Develop high-quality written and visual content for email, social media and website
    Collaborating with industry and community partners on issue-based communications campaigns
    Produce content and other deliverables for GRID’s corporate funders working in collaboration and at the direction of the Development Officer
    Maintain outward-facing communications and maintenance for all departments, increase awareness of the GRID brand to the public in order to garner more partnership and monetary support
    Develop story bank and photo storage for giving campaigns, partnership development and recruitment including interviews, photography, blogs and video from GRID clients, volunteers, trainees, staff and partners, and lead GRID IE photography efforts
    Produce and create content, manage and cultivate the master media list and calendar for press releases, special events, media advisories, and work to build relationships with local print, television, radio and online media outlets to promote GRID
    Develop and maintain all regional communication materials (one-pagers, signs, banners, flyers, etc) for all departments and work with staff to maximize use

What You Need To Bring To This Role…

  • Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, communications or related field, or equivalent work experience
    Min. 3 years experience in digital communications, ideally nonprofit and/or renewable energy/environment
    Demonstrated skill in content production, including video, photography and written materials such as blogs and newsletters
    Fluency with Google Analytics, customer relationship management platforms, content management systems, and email marketing platforms
    Basic knowledge of HTML
    Excellent storytelling abilities
    Hired CA candidates must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including: amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.

It would be great if you also had…

  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS for email
    Graphic design skills
    Successful track record of digital fundraising campaigns
    Experience with Salesforce
    Experience managing social media accounts
    Strong ties to the Inland Empire region
    Experience with public speaking
    Video content creation

Where you will sit & the places you may go…

This position may require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects. Availability to work nights and weekends may be required.

GRID Alternatives provides vehicles for work travel, and due to COVID-19 current guidelines, we may also require limited personal vehicle use. In the latter instance, GRID will provide travel reimbursement for work-related personal vehicle use in accordance with our payroll schedule. Additionally, all applicants will need a valid driver’s license and good driving record to be considered.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary commensurate with experience within the salary pay range of ($65,000 - 85,000 per year).
