Energy Efficiency Lead Engineer

Resource Innovations is seeking a Lead Engineer to support and grow an energy efficiency program that delivers highly technical, whole-building solutions across both multifamily and commercial/industrial systems. While the program includes multifamily buildings, the work extends well beyond traditional residential scope and includes complex building systems, advanced controls strategies, custom energy calculations, and energy management.

This role provides an opportunity to:

Lead technically complex projects from prescriptive through fully custom solutions

Serve as a technical authority for both internal teams and external stakeholders

Mentor and manage junior engineers

Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Project Delivery

Lead and support the delivery of multifamily and C&I energy efficiency projects, including:

Custom projects

Energy Management

Prescriptive

Perform deep technical analysis across building systems, including HVAC, BAS/controls, lighting, and other complex systems

Develop and review custom energy calculations, engineering models, and savings methodologies

Engineering & Analysis

Conduct energy audits and system assessments across multifamily and commercial facilities

Develop project scopes and perform:

BIN/hourly analysis

Economic and lifecycle cost analysis

Lead or support measurement & verification (M&V) activities, including:

Site inspections

Trend data analysis

Functional performance testing

Field verification

Client & Program Interface

Serve as a technical lead and liaison with utilities, program administrators, trade allies, and customers

Provide guidance on:

Measure eligibility

Savings methodologies

Program strategy and optimization

Identify program and process gaps and recommend practical, scalable solutions

Team Leadership (as applicable)

Mentor and support junior engineers and technical reviewers

Provide technical QA/QC oversight to ensure consistency and quality across projects

Support training, onboarding, and development of engineering staff

Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the State of New Jersey

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or related field

5+ years of experience in energy efficiency, commissioning, or building systems engineering

Strong understanding of:

HVAC systems and controls

Electrical systems and lighting

Thermodynamics and fluid systems

Proven ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred skills, education and experience

Experience with utility energy efficiency programs (custom, prescriptive, and/or energy management)

Experience developing and reviewing energy savings calculations and methodologies

Prior experience managing or mentoring engineering teams, including oversight of project delivery, QA/QC, and staff development

Knowledge of industry codes, standards, and program frameworks, such as:

Technical Reference Manuals

ASHRAE 90.1

IECC

Professional certifications such as:

PE

CEM

CMVP

CBCP

Compensation: The compensation range for the base salary for this position is $90,000 – $140,000
