Officer & Operations Manager

The Connecticut Land Conservation Council (CLCC) seeks an organized, detail-oriented individual to serve as our Office & Operations Manager. In this multifaceted role, you will ensure the smooth day-to-day functioning of CLCC’s administrative operations, support donor management, and assist with event logistics, all while contributing to the overall success of our small, mission-driven team.

CLCC is the statewide service provider and umbrella organization for Connecticut’s ~120 land trusts. We are a leader in advocacy and policy, education and training, and technical assistance to empower land trusts and other conservation organizations to ensure the long-term viability of land conservation efforts in the state.

Since its formation in 2006, CLCC has grown into one of the most effective land trust service associations in the country, offering a wide range of programming and services, including traditional capacity building, training, and grant programs, along with new and creative opportunities for land trusts to better connect to one another and their communities for greater conservation, economic, and social impact.

Duties and Responsibilities

1- General Administration

Manage daily office operations, including telephone support, mail processing, and inventory management of office supplies, printed materials, and merchandise.
Oversee general office filing systems, including contracts, invoices, timesheets, and expense reports for bookkeeping.
Serve as the primary point of contact for administrative support services, ensuring that technological needs (phones, computers, website, etc.) are met.
Obtain quotes and liaise with vendors for materials such as printed publications and event-related needs.
Assist with collecting documents and reports needed for annual audit.

2 – Donor Database Management

Maintain CLCC’s donor database by entering donations, generating and printing acknowledgment letters, and ensuring best practices to maintain a clean database.
Update online donation forms and seasonal acknowledgment letters to ensure they remain current and relevant.
Provide regular reports for bookkeeping and assist with list segmentation for events, appeals, and email campaigns.

3 – Land Trust Membership Program

Respond to inquiries regarding CLCC’s organizational membership program, updating membership information on the website and in CLCC’s internal records.
Support annual renewal campaigns through mailed and emailed renewal notices.
Ensure accuracy and relevance of all printed and online membership materials.

4 – Event and Conference Support

Assist with logistics for CLCC events, including venue reservations, catering orders, and material preparation for tabling efforts.
Lead the coordination of CLCC’s annual photo contest and Excellence in Conservation Awards.
In Year 1, support the planning of CLCC’s annual conference, with the expectation to take the lead in Year 2. This includes managing venue logistics, catering, registration, printing of materials, sponsorships, and volunteer coordination.
Assist with generating print and online communications related to event promotion.

5 – Other Duties as Assigned

As part of a small, collaborative team, this position will contribute to various projects and tasks as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Proven experience in office administration, operations, or a similar role, with a minimum of 3 years managing administrative tasks, coordinating office operations, or providing operational support in a professional environment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with a demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks, manage priorities, and ensure accuracy and consistency in their work.
Strong working knowledge of office software, including Google Workspace. Ability to troubleshoot basic office technology issues as needed.

Director, Sustainability and Environmental Policy

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) is seeking a Director of Domestic Policy. The Director of Domestic Policy (Sustainability and Environmental Quality Policy) serves as a key advisor, issue expert and lobbyist for the NAM and its members on a range of issues, including chemicals use and manufacturing including of PFAS, legislation and regulations relation to clean air and clean water, plastics and the circular economy, environmental justice, and more.

This position is responsible for analyzing legislative and regulatory proposals and working with the VP of Domestic Policy to develop and execute legislative and regulatory strategies on designated issues to advance manufacturers’ priorities. This person will also be responsible for working closely with key internal stakeholders, including membership (to identify issues and communicate updates on priority items), public affairs and marketing (to inform NAM advocacy campaigns, demonstrate value to our membership on assigned issues and identify opportunities to enhance NAM’s public-facing work), and legal (to analyze statutory and procedural impacts of legislative and regulatory proposals).

The successful candidate has a track record of working effectively with policymakers on the designated issues and is able to analyze and communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly to a variety of audiences. Experience with public speaking, including engagement with the media, is preferred.

Key responsibilities include working proactively and collaboratively with other policy experts and internal groups to develop and execute advocacy strategies; serving as a voice for manufacturers before relevant policymakers on Capitol Hill and in the Administration; working closely with key leaders at the NAM’s 14,000 member companies to identify policy priorities; communicating with internal and external stakeholders about the NAM’s policy work; and ensuring that the NAM is responsive to the needs of manufacturers on the assigned policy issues. At the discretion of NAM leadership, this position may be used for background press interviews.

The Position
The Midwest Policy Manager position is a key role that offers an exciting opportunity to help carry out the policy agenda of a growing, forward-looking agricultural conservation organization. The Policy Manager will be responsible for working closely with the Midwest Regional staff, the AFT Policy team, consultants, and external partners to advocate for policies and programs that save the land that sustains us. This includes advancing farmland protection and helping farmers mitigate and adapt to climate change and protecting water quality.

The Policy Manager will support broader efforts to develop and grow these programs. They will have the opportunity to work across teams within AFT’s Midwest Region and the organization and with external partners, including farmers, landowners, agricultural professionals, and institutional leaders.

What You’ll Be Working On

Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with state and federal officials, leaders of agricultural and conservation organizations, food and community groups, and others;
Analyzing state and federal legislation, budgets, and administrative rules, as well as conducting research to advance AFT’s policy positions;
Coordinating grassroots advocacy among local governments, land trusts, farm and food organizations, and others;
Assisting in the development of workplans, budgets, and fundraising strategies for projects in the Midwest;

Advocating for state and local policies that reflect AFT’s Smart Solar principles;
Representing AFT on committees and in coalitions such as the Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy Policy Working Group, Ag Water Quality Partnership Committee, and Illinois’s Ag Policy Coalition; and

Assistant Professor, Environmental Public Policy

The School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) at the University of Cincinnati (UC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of environmental public policy and research methodology. While the tenure-home of the position is in SPIA, the successful candidate is expected to teach cross-listed courses in support of the mission of UC’s School of Environment and Sustainability Studies (SEaS). SPIA is seeking to expand its research capacity to leverage broader theories/frameworks of public policy and/or governance, which align with SPIA’s mission to advance research with public impact.

SPIA offers a PhD and MA in Political Science, a Master’s of Public Administration (MPA), as well as three undergraduate BAs (Political Science, International Affairs, and Law and Society). SPIA also houses three centers—the Center for Cyber Strategy and Policy (CCSP), the Portman Center for Policy Solutions (PCPS), and the Center for Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (CTRHT). SEaS is home to the Environmental Studies BS and BA, as well as two minor tracks. SEaS brings together expertise in the Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities to create a transdisciplinary approach to problem solving in the classroom and in the community.
Essential Functions

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Apply their research and methodological expertise to an environmental policy-centered research agenda that exhibits potential for external funding. Research in any environmental issue-area or using any methodological approach is welcome.

• Teach primarily, but not exclusively, courses at the undergraduate level. The course load for research active tenure-track faculty is 2-2 (two courses per 2 semesters). All undergraduate courses taught will be cross listed between SPIA and SEaS. Courses might include, but are not limited to, Introduction to Environmental Policy, Environmental Justice, Environmental Science and Politics, and/or Global Environmental Politics. Graduate courses might include Public Policy Research Methods and Environmental Policy.

• Develop their own courses that coincide with their specific area of expertise.

• Perform service activities such as committee membership at the unit level as well as the college, university and at national and international levels with professional organizations, community-engagement, public service, as well as student mentorship and advising.
Minimum Requirements

Prior to the effective date of the appointment, candidates must have a completed PhD (i.e., must have completed all requirements for graduation) in Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field.

Lead NEPA Specialist

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Lead NEPA Specialist coordinates and directs activities necessary for Amtrak to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related environmental regulations and permit requirements. Responsibilities include developing strategies and providing regular coordination/document submissions to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA); overseeing contractors performing NEPA compliance activities; participating in and providing guidance to project teams developing Environmental Impact Statements or Environmental Assessments; indirectly providing guidance to environmental personnel in field operations as well as other Amtrak project managers and supporting staff monitoring and coordinating Amtrak NEPA activities; providing consulting and training to Amtrak project managers; and acting as liaison to the FRA and other federal agencies regarding NEPA compliance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provide regulatory and technical guidance and direction to Amtrak Project Managers on NEPA compliance requirements for Amtrak projects throughout the Amtrak system.
• Stay current on NEPA-related laws and regulations applicable to Amtrak and advise on regulatory matters.
• Lead the development and submittal of the monthly Categorical Exclusion (CE) Requests to FRA. Develop CE worksheets in-house as needed and oversee/manage consulting firms developing documents, consultation letters, and scope development and deliverables reviews.
• Coordinate and communicate NEPA activities with FRA and other federal agencies.
• Support project managers with environmental permitting for construction projects as necessary
• Develop scopes of work and lead/direct contractors performing NEPA compliance activities.
• Track progress of Amtrak NEPA activities on a project specific basis, including satisfaction of environmental commitments/mitigation, and maintain the database Amtrak uses to track ongoing and upcoming projects.
• Coordinate NEPA activities with several Amtrak departments, including Grants, Engineering and Finance.
• Review NEPA documents prepared by other entities for potential impact on Amtrak properties, operations, or environmental responsibilities.
• Work closely with Amtrak’s Senior Historic Preservation Specialist to resolve cultural resources issues as they relate to NEPA, as well as to establish joint procedures and conduct training, develop consultant scopes of work, and coordinate projects.
• Work closely with Amtrak’s GIS and other technology teams to improve management of NEPA data.
• Perform other related duties as required.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences or planning, engineering or related science degree required (or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).

Legal Assistant

Position Summary

We are seeking a part-time Legal Assistant (60% FTE) who is proactive, exceptionally organized, and comfortable reaching out to busy professionals. The ideal candidate will have experience in a real estate law office and be familiar with closing documents. Preferred software skills include FileMaker, Excel, and Adobe Pro. Responsibilities include assisting with land transaction documentation (both historical and current) and file organization, preparing closing documents, and managing schedules and meetings. The position requires onsite work on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with a pay rate of $35-40/hr.

The OSI Legal Department (five lawyers and one paralegal) handles all of the legal work of OSI, including the acquisition and disposition of conservation fee lands and conservation easements; providing legal support for OSI’s existing portfolio of fee land and conservation easements, including resolving disputes and violations of conservation easements; preparing grant agreements and undertaking due diligence for each grant; and day-to-day legal aspects of a non-profit organization, including contracts and corporate governance matters.

Primary Responsibilities

• Work directly with partner organizations to collect and compile documentation of land transactions for OSI Legal Department review.

• Assist the Legal Department with the evaluation of title, survey, environmental investigation, and other matters related to land acquisition and disposition.

• Prepare all necessary closing documents, coordinating with outside counsel, landowners, and public agency staff.

• Assist in the preparation of legal documents, including option agreements, purchase and sale agreements, grant agreements, conservation easements, leases, and escrow instructions.

• Assist with organization and maintenance of the Legal Department’s internal files, including coordination with other OSI staff to compile transaction documentation.

• Track deadlines and terminations of ongoing agreements with third parties.

• Administer Legal Department meetings and report to OSI staff during full staff meetings.

• Perform administrative tasks such as schedule management, expense submission and reimbursement, mailing original documents, record keeping, filing, and tracking attorney requests as needed.

Litigation Fellow

NRDC is seeking a Litigation Fellow to work with the Litigation team in one of our U.S. offices: Chicago; New York; San Francisco; Santa Monica; or Washington, D.C. The term for this fellowship is Fall 2025 through Fall 2027, with the possibility of extension through Fall 2028.

The Litigation Team is a group of approximately 40 lawyers, paralegals, and other operations staff who pursue litigation across a broad range of environmental and public health issues and in collaboration with and on behalf of communities most impacted by environmental injustices (including Black, indigenous, and people of color, and low-income and rural communities). Over the past several years, we have litigated cases against the federal government to prevent climate pollution, challenge agency approvals of toxic chemicals and pesticides, resist the suspension of clean water safeguards, oppose offshore drilling and seismic exploration for oil and gas, defend national monuments, and protect energy efficiency standards, among other matters. We also bring enforcement cases against corporate and governmental entities whose violations harm health and the environment—including recent cases to protect the people of Newark, New Jersey and Flint, Michigan, from lead in drinking water; to remediate toxic pollution in the Penobscot River in Maine; to abate mold in New York City public housing for residents with asthma; and to clean up a chemical manufacturing plant in Pittsburg, California.
Responsibilities

Working with a team of lawyers and paralegals on active cases and case development projects, including by both providing support on cases led by senior attorneys and leading cases, or substantial aspects of cases, under the supervision of senior attorneys.
Collaborating with NRDC program staff, clients, experts, and coalition and community partners to support litigation goals.
Conducting legal research and factual investigations.
Writing briefs, motions, and memoranda.
Presenting oral arguments and participating in status conferences and other hearings.
Engaging in discovery and conducting record and document review.
Preparing for and taking depositions.
Contributing to institutional initiatives such as projects related to improving diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in our work, intern hiring and coordination, and organizing CLEs.

Qualifications

This Fellowship is designed for recent law school graduates and attorneys with up to three years of litigation experience. In assessing candidates, we look for:

Water Protection Specialist I

Definition

Under general supervision, is responsible for performing source water protection activities and monitoring/securing City watershed properties; performs related duties as required.

Examples of Work

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)

Identifies hazardous, unlawful, and unauthorized use of City watershed properties by patrolling land and water areas with City vehicles and boats, walking property boundaries, and securing facilities and equipment;
Responds to public inquiries concerning the utilization of City watershed properties, the location of City property boundaries and easements, and applicable laws and regulations;
Monitors public utilization of City reservoirs, park land, and associated facilities to ensure water protection, public safety, health, and welfare;
Provides field and technical support with natural resources and land stewardship management activities;
Investigates and documents pollution sources and collects evidence and samples as necessary;
Meets with landowners adjacent to the City’s watershed properties in order to assist with the resolution of encroachment issues and to secure land stewardship agreements;
May perform light preventative and corrective maintenance on City vehicles, boats, and water-analysis instruments to ensure safe and efficient operation;
Compiles reports of investigations, issues warnings, records statements, and collects findings for action taken and/or recommended;
Notifies local law enforcement agencies as necessary for compliance assistance;
Uses hand tools or other equipment to assist in the maintenance of City watershed properties and facilities as needed;
Assists with the creation, development, and implementation of public education and outreach programs;
May facilitate activities conducted on watershed properties with emergency medical services, law enforcement, or other regulatory agencies;
May use instruments and read gauges to monitor and record land and water data, including position, elevation, temperature, precipitation, or other water quality indicators.

Minimum Qualifications

Significant college coursework (eighteen (18) quarter or twelve (12) semester hours) in natural resources, environmental science, forestry, park management, wildlife management, or a closely related field. Substitution(s): One (1) year of field experience in natural resource conservation, protection, or restoration; wildlife management; or providing security within a park or facility may be substituted for the required education.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

By the completion of the probationary period, must possess a valid Ohio Boaters Education Certificate.
