Environmental and Sustainability Specialist

The successful candidate’s office will be located at the Ecovyst Catalyst Technologies Kansas City site.

The position reports to the VP of Environment and Sustainability for the Corporation located in Malvern, PA and is part of the Corporate Environment and Sustainability (ES) Department.

Responsibilities:

Provides direct environmental support to the Kansas City (KS) site with additional environmental and Sustainability responsibilities as assigned by the VP, ES.
Provides support in the management and servicing of the environmental components of the RC14001®/ISO14001 Management System.
Analyzes the work environment, develops processes/programs and provides technical support to front-line leadership on matters related to environmental compliance, pollution prevention and sustainability.
Conducts field and site inspections to assist the operating sites in adhering to laws, regulations and Ecovyst policies governing environmental compliance.
Manages and/or performs the collection and submission of data required to satisfy environmental permit and reporting requirements (air, water, land). Must be able to interpret the technical information. Will prepare reports for use by company personnel and regulatory agencies. In some cases, will develop or oversee the preparation of permitting documents, possibly including multiple air permit modifications each year, and environmental reports by third-party providers.
Responsible for both haz/nonhaz waste compliance in conjunction with site-based personnel and plant management.
Develops and manages initiatives to promote a proactive environmental culture, including processes designed to increase employee involvement, education, and recognition by participation in environmental committees, environmental Perfect Day Event (loss of containment, deviations and enforcement action) investigations, training, environmental matters and compliance/internal auditing.
Collects and interprets environmental data to identify trends and/or causal factors, such as system/equipment failure, human error, incomplete or faulty decision-making, or a weakness in existing policies, practices and regulations.
Investigates loss of containment incidents and non-compliance events to determine contributing factors and recommends remedial action to prevent reoccurrence.
Liaises with regulatory agencies on matters related to reporting, investigations/inspections and/or negotiating compliance concerns.
Develops and delivers regulatory required training related to environmental performance.
Assists in the tracking of sustainability performance metrics related to the environment, preparation of replies to customer/supply chain inquiries or questionnaires and other sustainability matters as assigned by the VP, ES. Will be responsible for leading/participating in Life Cycle Analysis in support of overall Sustainability efforts.
Additional responsibilities and changes in responsibilities may be made at the discretion of the VP, ES.

Requirements:

University degree in Engineering (e.g., ChE, EnvE or equivalent) or Environmental Science.
A minimum of 10+ years of environmental experience in chemicals/related process industry, with 5-10 years resident at an operating site. Must have experience in dealing with air, waste, storm water and subsurface issues.
Excellent knowledge of federal, state and local HSE regulations. Prior experience in providing environmental service to US operations and knowledge of US federal environmental regulations is highly desirable.
Ability to travel if necessary.
Must be proficient in serving as a change agent within the operating environment and working with the organization/management to improve environmental and sustainability performance.
Ability to address and solve complex environmental issues from a universal perspective.
Must be an independent, self-motivated individual with the ability to multi-task and administer a broad range of duties including: resolving concerns; counseling plant management and front-line employees; and providing technical interpretation of policies and procedures. Must be able to work independently without day-to-day supervision.
Ability to perform physical inspections of all operating areas at assigned sites.

Environmental Specialist I/II/III

Responsible for placing safety as #1 priority in day to day work routine for self and others. With oversight and guidance from higher levels, proactively assures the Company’s environmental compliance with all applicable requirements and recommends programs and projects for continual compliance. Provides guidance and technical assistance to facilities and operations for environmental permitting and compliance in managing waste, water, air emissions, natural and cultural resources, wildlife, and/or land. Prepares and submits environmental reports and permit applications to federal, state, and local agencies. Provides environmental regulatory assistance, supports and provides limited direction on construction projects and risk assessments, permit negotiations, property management and remediation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Monitors emerging laws and rulemaking and interprets environmental laws, regulations, guidance, and permits applicable to the Company’s facilities and operations, analyzes the impact on Company facilities and operations and independently prepares summaries of impacts.
Assists in drafting comments on proposed environmental legislation and regulations.
Assists in the development and distribution of environmental compliance procedures and conducts training on established procedures, develops new training, and updates training materials to ensure compliance.
Works closely with facility and operations staff to obtain and update environmental permits and authorizations. Prepares and submits permit applications. If applicable, assists in defending permit applications and developing support for negotiating permit requirements.
Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Level I: ($57,680 – $72,100)

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or related engineering or science field such as biology, geology, hydrology, chemistry, or natural resources management.

Level II: ($66,760 – $83,450)

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering or related engineering or science field such as biology, geology, hydrology, chemistry, or natural resources management; and
Two years’ experience in an environmental field related to waste and/or water environmental compliance management, hazardous material transportation, SPCC plans, NEPA review, wildlife and natural resources management and permitting, underground storage tank regulation and/or environmental remediation, and/or air emissions permitting and compliance.

Level III: ($76,800 – $96,000)

Under the supervision of the executive director, assistant director or the environmental programs manager, the Environmental Programs Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operation and coordination of all environmental-related programs involving the Meramec Regional Planning Commission.

Providing detailed information and technical assistance to member governments and the general public in meeting state and federal requirements and answering questions;

Postdoctoral Researcher – College of Engineering

The Villanova Center for Resilient Water Systems (VCRWS) is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral researcher to participate on exciting projects focusing on the environmental aspects of stormwater green infrastructure, as well as perform research . This position directs the operations of the Water Resources Research Lab within the Center for Resilient Water Systems (VCRWS). The Position directly supervises undergraduate student workers as well as serves as a team lead for the graduate students who conduct stormwater sampling. Regularly and proactively trains students in lab tasks and safety procedures.

The successful candidate will aid in research activities related to the Villanova Center for Resilient Water Systems research. Individual will be responsible for all nutrient and metals analytical testing, works with PIs to conduct quality control on data, and maintains data records. Individual ensures that all data is collected with scientific integrity and meets the quality control guidance outlined in the Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Additionally, the individual will work with existing field, laboratory, and model projects to execute new methods and analysis.

The successful candidate must have:

a Ph.D. degree in water resources engineering, civil and/or environmental engineering or closely related field

Experience with analytical problem solving, creative process design, as well as good oral and written communication skills are preferred. Individual must be willing to work closely with Dr. Traver and Dr. Wadzuk as well as with undergraduate and graduate students. Water Resources & Conservation Analyst

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of duties involving water resources and water conservation programs. Includes the preparation of water resource and conservation reports, regulatory compliance tracking as well as providing technical assistance to internal and external customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for the ordering and tracking of the delivery of Central Arizona Project water for recharge and recovery, monitoring and tracking of the groundwater allowance account and long-term storage accounts.
Assists with the preparation of reports for regulatory bodies, including the Arizona Department of Water Resources annual water use reports.
Responsible for the development and maintenance of systems and databases to efficiently track and report water use, water resource and water conservation information.
Responsible for the content development and timely completion of the Utility’s quarterly departmental newsletter.
Develops and administers the Utility’s conservation budget.
Develops, implements, and manages the Utility’s water conservation programs, including educational programs for school-age children.
Conducts indoor and outdoor water use audits and/or evaluations of residential and commercial properties and recommends adjustments to reduce water use.
Provides educational materials and services related to efficient water use to homeowners, businesses, contractors and landscape service providers, Town-owned facilities and sports/recreation facilities.
Represents the Town and the Water Utility by attending and participating in meetings with regional water providers and local, state and federal agencies regarding various water resource and water conservation matters.
Monitors the Utility’s WaterSmart platform to identify high usage for all customer classifications and notifies customers of high usage.
Assists Customer Service staff in the monitoring of the Utility’s OVWater email and responds to customer inquiries with respect to irrigation leaks, and high water usage.
Coordinates as required with Water Operations, Engineering and Customer Service.
Attends Water Utility Commission meetings as required to provide staff reports and/or make presentations and recommendations.
Assist in researching and applying for grants and grant administration.

Recycling Coordinator

Job Summary: The Recycling Coordinator develops and implements the region-wide recycling and solid waste diversion program; provides planning and technical assistance to municipalities, schools, and businesses to ensure coordinated recycling and waste diversion and waste reduction practices; works closely with local public officials, private consultants and contractors to assist in the implementation of recycling programs; performs waste composition studies; analyzes waste data; writes/administers grants to assist with the Authority’s recycling and waste diversion initiatives; assures compliance with all policies, regulations and guidance as defined in the Facility Manual, the NYSDEC Part 360 operating Permit, and all other documents applicable to the safe and efficient performance of daily operations.

Watershed and Natural Resources Specialist

Water Resources Specialist

South Adams County Water & Sanitation is dedicated to providing reliable, affordable, and sustainable water resources and services in order to protect public health, the environment, and quality of life. We are seeking an individual to join the water resources group, to aid in the operation of the district’s water resources.

This position:

Monitors and maintains the district’s augmentation stations data recording equipment, head gates and measuring structures to ensure accurate data is available for the augmentation accounting.
Adjusts and controls the flow through augmentation structures, following the district’s augmentation plan.
Provides support to the administration and operation of the raw water/water resources program.
Coordinates, plans, documents and communicates with water rights administrators and ditch riders.
Maintains accurate data records.
Assists in monthly accounting and data analysis related to water resources.
Assists in water conservation and drought enforcement programs.

Works with our team to progress the district’s goal of creating and implementing a broad base sustainability plan.
Acts as a resource for the SACWSD team, assisting and encouraging a sustainability-focused culture.

Qualified candidates should have a bachelor’s degree with coarse work in environmental science, water resource management, hydrology or related field OR equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid, current Colorado Driver’s License is required.

A minimum of 1 year water resources, water operations, environmental programs or similar industry related experience. Class D Water Operators certification and/or Distribution 1 certification helpful.

Strong technical and mathematical aptitude, with troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Must be detail oriented, with effective organizational, communication and administrative skills, including MS Office. Self starter, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment is necessary.
