Tasks and Responsibilities

Coordination and oversight of drilling, surveying, and laboratory services.
Performance of field work, including soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and indoor air sampling, hydraulic testing such as slug test and pump tests, soil boring and monitoring well installation, soil logging, and well purging and sampling.
Oversight of implementation and field management (including operation, maintenance, and monitoring) of various environmental remediation systems (e.g., soil vapor extraction (SVE), enhanced in-situ bioremediation (eISB), in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO), permeable reactive barriers (PRB), and groundwater extraction and treatment).
Assistance with the development of comprehensive site investigation work plans by participating in scope of work development, budgeting, and data analysis to characterize contaminants in sediments, soil, air, surface water, and groundwater.
Assistance with development of Conceptual Site Models and ecological assessments.
Assistance with the preparation and editing of technical and regulatory reports.

Post Masters Research Associate – Marine Energy

The position will primarily support a large data management system known as PRIMRE (https://primre.org), which contains multiple databases about marine energy development in the United States and internationally. Responsibilities will include adding and curating content, assisting in system architecture and UX/UI development, analyzing and visualizing data, and supporting public outreach. A strong background in database management, information systems, or related field is preferred. Some familiarity with marine energy (e.g., wave, tidal, ocean current), offshore wind energy, or ocean sciences is beneficial.

Postdoctoral Researcher, Environmental Biogeochemistry/Environmental Engineering

The Environmental Biogeochemical Processes Lab (EBP) in the Department of Chemistry and Environmental Science at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in the area of environmental biogeochemistry/environmental engineering, especially in the fate and transport of target substances (e.g., environmental pollutants, H2, or CO2) in surface and/or subsurface environments in the context of water-food-energy nexus.

Essential Functions:
– The researcher will work closely with the PI (Dr. Lijie Zhang) and independently lead the efforts to design and execute research ideas.
– Prepare high-quality peer-reviewed articles.

Additional Functions:
– Assist in supervising masters or undergraduate students.
– Assist in writing grant proposals and reports.

Prerequisite Qualifications:
– An earned Ph.D. in environmental biogeochemistry/environmental engineering or a related field is required.

Environmental Analyst 1

This is an entry-level professional regulatory position, responsible for conducting technical environmental review and analysis of applications for Environmental Resource Permits (ERP), Surface Water Management (SWM) Permits, Sovereignty Submerged Lands (SSL) authorizations, Water Use Permits (WUPs) and Southern Everglades Works of the District (WOD) Permits, and conducting wetland jurisdictional determinations in accordance with established rules and criteria, accepted natural resources management principles, and environmental resource permitting and water use practice under supervision in a teamwork-based and deadline-oriented environment.

The position can be located in West Palm Beach Headquarters or the Okeechobee Service Center based on candidate preference.

Occasional work at the Okeechobee Service Center will be required. This position reports to the Natural Resource Management Section Leader in West Palm Beach. A remote work schedule may be available at the discretion of the Section Leader after a six-month evaluation.

Job Duties:
Review and analysis of ERP, SWM Permits, SSL authorizations, WUPs, and WOD Permit applications having controversial or complex water resource issues.

Entry-Level Coastal Engineer

Senior Research Development Associate

The Senior Research Development Associate (SRDA) will lead research proposal development and strategic planning for large and complex interdisciplinary environmental research activities that involve faculty from multiple WashU schools and institutes. The SRDA will support the Center for the Environment’s mission of increasing the size and impact of the WashU’s environmental research portfolio. The SRDA will work collaboratively with a range of faculty leaders, individual faculty, and the Research Development Office (RDO) to support the development of multiple complex grant proposals and programs by providing the highest level of service possible. As this is a new position, the SRDA will work closely with the faculty leadership team of the Center for the Environment to identify the key priorities in building out the research development services of the Center.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive proposal development services to teams of principal investigators (PIs) pursuing external research funding. The SRDA will primarily focus on development of large-scale (multi-million) interdisciplinary environmental grant proposals and other strategic institutional research programs. Proposal development duties include obtaining competitive intelligence on funding programs, facilitating PI team building and ideation, writing and editing proposal sections, and leading external review of proposals.
Identify additional campus expertise and resources to support the proposal development process, including cross-campus and external collaborators in areas of scientific expertise, workforce development, outreach and education, and diversity, equity, and inclusion, among others.
Work with government agencies and private sponsors to understand funding strategies and initiatives and to identify needs and synergies with university researchers in areas related to environmental research. Develop and maintain relationships with funding agency personnel on behalf of WashU faculty and leadership. Organize and host workshops, seminars, and events to further cultivate and develop relationships with program officers and sponsors.
Develop and implement training activities for faculty and students wishing to build skills and knowledge in environmental research and improve grantsmanship for targeted programs. Produce content for and lead periodic proposal development lectures and workshops.
Analyze data, create tables and reports, review trends, and make data-driven recommendations that contribute to proposal writing, strategic planning, outreach to federal sponsors and partners, and competitive intelligence for upcoming funding opportunities.
Assist PIs in the development of the management plan for proposed projects. Develop project strategy and coordination of site visits and follow-up inquiries. Provide comprehensive guidance to faculty and other personnel for the application and a high-impact level of mentorship/expertise to faculty, as well as integrated knowledge in project management science, scientific communication/editing, sponsors’ requirements, and WashU requirements and resources.
Work with the Center for the Environment and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research to design and administer an internal seed-grant funding program.

Environmental Associate I

Michael Baker International is seeking an Environmental Associate I to join the team in our Harrisburg, PA office. The staff will be expected to work in the Harrisburg Office each Wednesday but may work remotely the remainder of the week.
