The Environmental Support Specialist is responsible for having detailed knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance and must have strong organizational skills and a natural ability to work well and coordinate with a wide variety of field and office personnel.

What You’ll Do

Support environmental compliance across the assigned region of company construction projects and facilities, including construction-related permits, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, stormwater, and spill prevention, control, and countermeasure (SPCC) plan requirements.
Provide education and training to company personnel on applicable environmental compliance requirements, including inspections, record-keeping, and reporting.
Conduct environmental program audits at company construction projects and facilities for compliance with federal, state, and local permits and regulations, and consistency with corporate policies.
Assess inspection activities for timely compliance, quality, and effectiveness.
Audit recordkeeping for compliance, completeness, and accuracy.
Identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
Determine corrective actions to enhance and improve compliance.
Support project startup through permit onboarding, initial erosion and sedimentation control installation assessment, SPCC implementation, and establishment of waste management practices.
Provide technical, procedural, and policy support for environmental construction and operation permits.
Provide environmental support for engineering, construction, and operations personnel as needed.
Assist with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) and Quality training programs for environmental awareness.
Review environmental safety, health and emergency action plans, and programs to assure compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Respond to and determine appropriate corrective actions for spills and other environmental concerns, including required reporting, cleanup activities, and disposal of waste materials.
Track regulatory issues, including notices of violation, and assist with obtaining resolutions.
Participate in Root Cause Analysis efforts related to environmental regulatory issues as needed.
Support the Environmental Compliance Manager as needed to develop and improve company policies, procedures, and training programs to elevate environmental awareness and compliance.

Must-Haves

Three to five years of experience in an environmental compliance role, including oversight of erosion and sediment control projects
Professional certification in erosion and sediment control/stormwater pollution prevention plans or can obtain within 3 months of hire.
Skilled at reading and interpreting civil engineering plans.
Strong oral and written communication/interpersonal skills.
Ability to effectively communicate expectations, goals, and concerns to subcontractors and project management team members.

Director, Sustainability Codes and Standards

Environmental Specialist Trainee – Senior Environmental Specialist

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences (SEES) at Queens College (QC), City University of New York (CUNY) is searching for a full time, open rank (applicants will be considered at the Assistant, Associate and Full Professor levels), tenure-track Professor, with expertise in Climate Science, Applied Sustainability Studies and/or Ecosystem Modeling to join our faculty starting in August of 2023. Environmental Analyst IV

Xcel Energy is looking for an Environmental Analyst IV to be located in Minneapolis, MN. We are seeking a candidate experienced in all aspects of Construction Stormwater Compliance at complex construction sites. This position will also oversee the regional environmental incident response system for NSP-Minnesota including managing complex spill response actions across the company’s northern service territory. The candidate would support NSP-Minnesota operations and provide assistance to other regions of Xcel Energy in Colorado and Texas. Also, experience working with ArcGIS is desired.

Position Summary

Plans, supervises, provides expertise/consultation, reviews progress, and evaluates results on projects and programs involving engineering, permitting, licensing, auditing, regulatory compliance, and/or environmental assessments to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental statutes and regulations. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of theories and principles and applies it in creative and effective ways to a broad range of very difficult and complex assignments. Under consultative direction and with substantial latitude for unreviewed actions and decisions conducts important investigations requiring the application of new approaches in the field. Routinely serves on special work teams and uses expert technical knowledge to act as lead person or technical advisor on medium to large projects. Assignments are routinely self-initiated.

Responsibilities

Administers and consults on complex programs designed to minimize deficiencies and ensure compliance with regulations and permits. Directs site assessment/investigations/remediation projects as necessary. (Major areas may include: auditing, air permitting and compliance, water/wastewater permitting and compliance, land quality, radiological, above ground and underground storage tanks, emergency plans, DOT compliance, FAA safety regulations, and hazardous, liquid and solid waste disposal.)
Negotiates and administers license and permit applications and response actions to ensure compliance with existing federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Performs as a regulatory liaison with federal, state, and local agencies. Presents testimony at environmental hearings to support company position on environmental regulatory development.
Directs and/or conducts data collection, strategic studies, evaluations, and report development to support environmental regulatory requirements at Xcel facilities. Projects may include proposed legislation and/or emerging public issues, operating permit limits and/or potential environmental regulatory noncompliance.
Develops training lesson plan content that meet Xcel Academy standards, maintains instructor qualifications, and provides regulatory compliance training to Xcel personnel as is regulatory required and/or customer requested.
Monitors outcomes of incidents, regulatory inspections and internal audits of company owned facilities, contractors, and/or outside disposal facilities and conducts and/or assesses root cause analysis to ensure corrective actions adequately address the problem and non-compliance conditions are not repeated. Provides support for emergency environmental incidents as needed.
Monitors statutes, regulations, licenses, and/or permits for potential impacts to facility operations. Reviews proposed regulations, licenses, and/or permits to determine potential impacts to facility operations. Serves as the lead reviewer coordinating comments from others into a single company position recommendation.
Prepares requests for proposals, contract agreements, and project estimates. Supports and/or selects and manages consultants and contractors.
Assists others in developing, refining and implementing the strategic goals and objectives of Xcel Energy. Contributes to process teams concerning budget and regulatory compliance.5

Senior Environmental Program Manager

Prince William County Public Works, Solid Waste Division is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Senior Environmental Program Manager. This position will manage the Division’s federal, state, and local environmental compliance efforts and will oversee a team of employees responsible for performing specialized environmental monitoring, engineering, and construction project management at the County’s municipal solid waste landfill and yard waste composting facility.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or higher in the natural or physical sciences; environmental or civil engineering; or environmental policy, law, or planning with a minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience related to environmental compliance programs. Experience with permits and regulations pertaining to municipal solid waste landfills is preferred.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:
This is a manager-level position that works largely independently, both in the office and in the field, with minimal supervision and under the general oversight of the Assistant Director of Public Works for Solid Waste. The job requires sound and ethical judgment and the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with other employees, consultants, contractors, and agencies in a professional and respectful manner at all times. Responsibilities include directing and overseeing environmental permits, programs, personnel, and related contracts; interpreting applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations; ensuring regulatory compliance and appropriate recordkeeping; planning projects and developing budgets; and coordinating with internal and external agencies and the public. This position will supervise at least four employees and will direct, organize, prioritize, and assign work; develop work plans and schedules; conduct performance evaluations; and make hiring and disciplinary recommendations. This position will also provide instruction in work methods and procedures and will review and verify the work of other staff, consultants, and contractors.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or G.E.D is required. Bachelor’s degree or higher in the natural or physical sciences; environmental or civil engineering; environmental policy, law, or planning; or a related field is preferred.
Minimum 8 years of full-time progressive experience related to environmental compliance programs is required. Experience with municipal solid waste landfill regulations and permits is preferred.
Experience supervising and evaluating employees is preferred.
Possession of SWANA’s Manager of Landfill Operations and/or Virginia DPOR Waste Management Facility Operator’s License, or ability to obtain within one year of hire.
Possession of a valid driver’s license is required.

Assistant Professor, Environmental Science and Geographic Information Systems

The Department of Natural Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Environmental Science and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) beginning Fall 2023. This is a nine-month academic year, tenure-track faculty position. The position involves teaching introductory and advanced classes in Geographic Information Systems, and courses for the Environmental Science program. These courses could include environmental assessment, data analytics, forestry, hydrology, or other courses that complement our existing program. The incoming faculty member will also mentor student-centered research and internship experiences. The Environmental Science program maintains small class sizes, emphasizes experiential learning, and prides itself on student-centered teaching.

Recycling Program Coordinator

The Department of Public Works, Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD), seeks a Recycling Program Coordinator to implement, coordinate, and oversee a variety of recycling and waste management programs and assist businesses and community residents with meeting related government requirements. This position plays a key role in the department’s everyday environmental sustainability efforts by reviewing debris management plans; attending land use planning meetings; conducting public education and outreach; and developing website content. The Recycling Program Coordinator will also assist with budgeting and hauler franchise program administration; preparing reports; implementing State mandated recycling programs; providing customer service; overseeing 42 diversion programs; and conducting waste assessments. Minimum Requirements

Dyson College of Arts and Sciences of Pace University is seeking applicants for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Studies and Science to begin September 2023.

Environmental Studies and Science at Pace University is a vibrant and growing department with approximately 100-150 undergraduate and graduate students and seven full-time faculty across two campuses.
