Position Purpose

Environmental Specialist

This Environmental Specialist position in the Groundwater Protection Unit will be primarily responsible for leading agricultural education and outreach initiatives in collaboration with regional, state, and local partners and implementing the recently adopted Agricultural Chemical Reduction Effort (ACRE) Plan. The ACRE Plan focuses on reducing groundwater nitrate contamination from crop fertilizers throughout the county, but includes pesticide and chloride reduction efforts as well. Monitor and control large and complex projects, maintaining financial and progress forecasting to ensure efficient and cost-effective implementation and adherence to budgets and schedules. Accurately forecast and track project costs.
Provide support to the National Grid Legal team as a technical expert with multi-party environmental litigation.
Ensure projects comply with internal and external safety standards, policies and processes and comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations

Ecologist

What You Will Do

Apply your experience in field ecology to a diverse range of projects conducted by Soil, Foodstuffs, and Biota program. You will collaborate with program members to collect environmental samples for monitoring purposes within and around the Laboratory’s approximately 40 square miles. The program monitor radionuclides, metals, and organic chemicals, such as PCBs and PFAS, in a wide range of environmental media including soil, river and reservoir sediment, vegetation, foodstuffs, small mammals, fish, deer, elk, and more. You will also assist with data management, data analyses, and the preparation of reports and peer-reviewed publications. Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM. with the potential for teleworking from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite will be periodically required. Telework is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
