In parallel, the network is working to engage with companies and cities to support and encourage them to set SBTs, to help them move from “doing a bit better” to “doing enough” to stay within Earth’s limits.

SBTN builds on the momentum of the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which has spurred roughly 850 of the world’s largest companies to commit to greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in line with climate science.

SBTN is part of the Global Commons Alliance (GCA), which is a network of 45+ leading nonprofits and influential actors focused on systems change. This unprecedented collaboration brings together powerful leadership, science, innovation, technology, and communications to positively transform the global economy and protect the global commons.

Job Overview
SBTN’s Technical Director plays a central role in coordinating SBT methodological development across the many “issue areas” (e.g. water use, species biodiversity, land degradation) that collectively define Science-based Targets for Nature (see SBTN Initial Guidance for further details). Placed in SBTN’s Network Hub, the TD acts as the public face of SBTN on methodological and measurement issues, leads engagement with issue-specific methodological development teams, and provides strategic direction to steer toward a cohesive target setting framework in the 2022 timeframe.

Responsibilities and Duties

-Provide strategic advice on method development to issue-level working groups and hubs
-Present SBTN’s technical work in external settings, such as conferences, webinars, etc.
-Fulfill other technical lead functions as required

Qualifications

Additional desired characteristics include:
-Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant field
-At least 10 years experience in relevant fields, including corporate sustainability and/or consulting, sustainability science, sustainable finance, etc.
-Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
