Building Management System Specialist, Energy Engineering

Position Summary

Report to the Director, Energy Engineering. Responsible for advancing energy management efforts on campus and for the implementation of initiatives as related to building automation and metering systems. Working closely with the facility management, technical services and construction management groups, identify, evaluate and support the deployment of cost-effective energy management initiatives to drive environmental improvement, energy reduction and operational excellence across the NYU portfolio of properties. Evaluate the operational condition of a variety of Building Management Systems (BMS) throughout the NYU campuses by setting up and analyzing data trends for analysis and diagnostics. Recommend modifications of sequence of operations for building systems to optimize performance and efficiency. Coordinate, track and manage the optimization and repairs of the systems controlled by the BMS. Assist with identifying and managing the repair and replacement of malfunctioning building management system components on campus.
Qualifications

Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Facility Engineering, or a related degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Education:
Professional certification or accreditation is desirable such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Business Energy Professional (CBEP), Professional Engineer (PE) or LEED Accredited Professional (AP).

Required Experience:
5+ years of experience in facility operation, maintenance and engineering. In-depth knowledge of direct digital controls, instrumentation. Strong skills associated with control strategies and automation logic and diagnosing and troubleshooting errors. Commissioning, retrocommissioning, and fault detection experience. Ability to perform engineering calculations for energy and control projects. Proficiency in operating and navigating Human Man Interfaces (HMI) and Graphics User Interfaces (GUI) for building systems. Aptitude in reading, analyzing, and troubleshooting of object-oriented software or similar programming language software associated with direct digital controls systems. Strong knowledge of heating ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Competency in electrical and electronic controls associated with building systems such as lighting control systems, variable frequency drives (VFD), starters, etc. Comprehension of basic sequences of operation associate with HVAC systems, both major systems and terminal units. Experience with standard sequences of operation for variable air volume controls, chilled beams, fan coil units (FCUs), direct expansion (DX) units, dedicated outside air systems (DOAS) and other common HVAC systems. Hydronic systems control strategies such as perimeter heating systems, steam heating systems, and secondary water systems with associated heat exchangers. Refrigeration machine operation, cooling tower operation and condenser water controls. Must be fully proficient at reading specifications, design drawings and diagrams associated with HVAC systems, electric systems, and BMS. Basic understanding of information technology (IT) networked systems as applied towards BMS.

Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with multiple building automation system platforms. Experience working in an academic environment, and facility and energy engineering projects. Understanding of GUI interface with third party applications or software systems such as Iconics, etc. Familiarity with BACNET and other open protocols. Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs). Ability to read piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID). Familiar with proportional, integral and derivative (PID) loop analysis and tuning.

Assistant Research Professor – Marine Sciences

The Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Connecticut invites applications for the 2023 Bucklin Scholars Program.

The Bucklin Scholars Program aims to encourage and provide opportunities for postdoctoral scholars from marginalized and under-represented groups who seek to pursue academic careers in marine sciences. The program honors the work of Professor Ann Bucklin, who successfully increased gender equity in the UConn Department of Marine Sciences (DMS) during her tenure as Department Head.

In continuation of this mission, the Bucklin Scholars Program seeks applicants who will increase the diversity of the marine sciences. Scholars will work with DMS faculty members to design professional development activities that enhance the Scholar’s academic portfolio (e.g., engagement with state or federal agencies, organization of conference symposia, or grant proposal development). There is also an option to gain instructional skills through teaching (up to one course per year). The goal is to position Scholars for successful academic careers in marine sciences.

Each year the program supports one Scholar, appointed at the rank of Assistant Research Professor. This rank permits the scholar to submit proposals from DMS for extramural funding as a principal investigator (PI) in collaboration with other DMS faculty members or independently.

Stormwater Engineer I

The City of Lancaster is seeking a Stormwater Engineer I. This position performs professional civil engineering work related to the City stormwater utility program, including coordination of the program and budget, review of City capital improvement projects, residential subdivision developments, commercial/industrial developments for compliance with the stormwater regulations, compliance with NPDES permit, and associated duties. Environmental Analyst – Water Resource Protection

NEIWPCC is seeking a passionate full-time Environmental Analyst to join our expert, resourceful and collaborative team. This position will work closely with other staff and stakeholders to advance the mission and vision of NEIWPCC with a focus on the interaction between the Clean Water Act (CWA) and Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA).  

The successful candidate will assist with projects and grants focused on source water protection and contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) as a technical expert and liaison to our partners. This position will be responsible for developing and implementing workplans, budgets, and contracts with state governmental agencies, and will oversee remote NEIWPCC staff working alongside those agencies on source water protection initiatives throughout the region.

The successful candidate will hold a degree in environmental science, natural science, public health, earth science, biology, chemistry, or related field. Must have knowledge of and experience with aspects of water quality and watershed management and quality assurance plans and programs. Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills, as well as comfort working in a very collaborative environment required. Experience with budget preparation, grant writing, and contract management preferred. Candidates with alternative qualifications or who have taken a less traditional career path may be considered if an aptitude for success and a strong willingness to learn is clearly apparent. Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with all site EHS Managers to foster a collaborative team environment focused on achieving environmental compliance and executing environmental stewardship across the network of plants.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with executive staff to impact the development of organizational principles and guidelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicable experience working with federal environmental regulations and legislation, including the
  • National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, National Historic Preservation Act, and
  • Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in an environmental discipline (environmental health, environmental toxicology, natural resources management) or closely related social science (cultural resource management; environmental history or policy; political science; etc.).
  • Experience developing, implementing, and ensuring adherence to Standard Operating Procedures that meet organizational requirements. 
  • Experience working in an academic setting with faculty, researchers, and university support offices.
  • Demonstrated ability of working collaboratively and productively in multidisciplinary environments with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience working with the Department of Defense or other federal land-managing agencies.
  • Extensive supervisory and management experience at department or organizational levels.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project management principles, including management of budget and personnel, and stakeholder relations, and PMP certification or equivalent strongly desired.
  • Management and leadership experience at departmental or organizational levels.
  • Successful track-record of winning and administering grants, cooperative agreements, and/or contracts.

Colorado State University (CSU) founded the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML) in 1991 as an environmental research, education, and service unit of the Warner College of Natural Resources. The Environmental Science and Public Policy (ESPP) concentration seeks qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director of Undergraduate Studies (ADUS) in the ESPP program, housed administratively at the Harvard University Center for the Environment (HUCE). The ADUS will report to the ESPP Head Tutor and an interdisciplinary faculty ESPP Board of Tutors.

 

Job-Specific Responsibilities

Provide academic advising and mentorship to admitted Harvard students, pre-concentrators, and concentrators, and monitor student progress toward degree. Match student thesis writers with faculty advisors; identify potential problems in the thesis-writing process; help keep students on track to complete the thesis. Manage the senior capstone and thesis courses; meet regularly with students to identify issues with progress and advising. Advise ESPP and Energy & Environment secondary field students and lead discussions for their colloquium requirement.

In coordination with the Office of Career Services and other relevant offices at Harvard College, support current students in their pursuit of undergraduate research opportunities, internships, and full-time post-graduate positions after graduation. Act as a conduit to faculty to help students engage in meaningful research experiences at Harvard. Engage with students in settings outside of the classroom related to ESPP content: informal discussions after talks, field trips, journal clubs, etc. Help identify speakers for events. Represent ESPP at information/student recruiting events.

Assist with curriculum and course development, course planning, and curriculum assessment. May teach or co-teach in ESPP depending on the needs of the concentration in a given academic year.

 

Basic Qualifications

A Ph.D. in an environmental field (science or social sciences) with significant involvement in the policy realm.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Documented ability to teach effectively and engage with undergraduate students; a strong commitment to education and mentoring; experience with advising and course/program development and commitment and enthusiasm for research and pedagogy in research methods; excellent communication skills.
