Assistant Professor – Environmental Science

The Division of Environmental Science at Texas Woman’s University invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor with an appointment starting in Fall 2025. Candidates should be engaged in innovative research in environmental science and have a clear vision for building an impactful research program with potential for extramural funding that includes both undergraduates and graduate students. We are particularly interested in strong candidates who wish to study local ecosystems and who will complement our existing strengths in data science, ecology, green chemistry, and STEM education.

Successful candidates will also have teaching experience and a desire to teach undergraduate courses and develop graduate level courses for a future MS Environmental Science degree. Environmental Science is a new interdisciplinary division in the School of the Sciences, encompassing faculty from Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Mathematics. Engineering Supervisor

Position Summary:
The Engineering Supervisor manages capital improvement projects for the District. This position is also responsible for evaluating current and proposed District operations to ensure all projects meet the District standards. Additionally, this position is responsible for regulatory compliance and efficient operations of the District.

Primarily manages capital improvement projects dealing with treatment plants, water storage tanks, and pump stations from concept through design and construction. May assist and/or be responsible for maintenance of the hydraulic model and perform hydraulic analysis for certification of new projects, identifying system improvements which are needed, determining the system’s response when certain components are taken out of service for maintenance, assurance that state regulations are met for new improvements and scenarios.

May assist and/or be responsible for updating reports dealing with distribution system data, project and procurement scheduling, and change order tracking for the department and Board of Commissioners.
Supervises and reviews the work of staff engineers and / or engineering technicians and offers guidance to resolve issues.
Recommends, completes, and delivers department performance reviews for assigned staff.
Ensures compliance with regulations and interacts with regulatory agencies.

Stormwater Program Manager

The purpose of this classification is to oversee the storm water program to ensure all requirements are met for MS4 Permit. Duties and responsibilities include coordinating the Storm Water Management program, reviewing, mapping, and addressing discharge investigations, providing education and other community awareness programs, ensure the City of Manchester complies with the MS4 General Permit, and reviews drawings of all storm water facilities. Assists in reviewing and inspecting site development plans for erosion and sediment control and water quality provisions. Reports to Director of Community Development and Zoning.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Coordinates Storm Water Management (SWM) Program by reviewing, mapping, illicit discharge investigations, public education and awareness programs, erosion control plans, storm water pollution prevention plans, and all components of the city storm water management program.
Continually searches and implements means to more effectively manage all aspects of the MS4 program (a state permit), specifically grading permit issuance, site inspections, and computerized record-keeping.
Corresponds with and instructs businesses, industries, and institutions to implement best management practices.
Maintains records and tracks all maintenance of stormwater control measures within the MS4
Performs collection of required documents, inspects sediment control measures, conducts pre-construction meetings, and reviews applications to initiate every grading permit issuance.
Upholds TDEC inspection standards for illicit discharge determination elimination (IDDE), construction site, post-construction site, and municipal activities.
Conducts and reports results of periodic drainage system outfall point and known possible IDDE source inspections as well as accidental discharges.
Notifies developers, contractors, property owners, or other individuals of IDDE, pre-construction, and post-construction activities violating City of Manchester Stormwater Ordinance and associated policies and reprimands as appropriate.
Organizes, publicize, and facilitate all public education and participation events.
Conducts internal training with city departments for erosion protection and spill prevention.
Promotes education and outreach opportunities to citizens, organizations, and groups.
Using the stormwater hotline, records and addresses storm water related complaints of citizens.
Answers questions in office and field regarding SWM Ordinance and Subdivision Regulations to ensure compliance.
Completes records in a timely manner of performed inspections.
Meets with property owners and investigates storm water complaints.
Coordinates with consultants, sub-contractors, and Street Department on needed infrastructure repairs and upgrades.
Promote alternative water quality treatment methods and encourage large developments to follow low impact development standards.
Works safely, observing all OSHA, federal, state, and city regulations.
Reports any accidents immediately to the director.
Performs any other duties as assigned by director.

Provides coverage in absence of other personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age
Must possess a valid Tennessee Drivers License.
Must have either a Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related area; supplemented with four (4) years of experience performing duties related to MS4 program or Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Must have TDEC Level I & II Certification for Erosion Prevention-Sediment Control inspections.
Two years experience in drainage, erosion control, and stormwater management.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to speak publicly in explaining construction projects and the progress of work thereon
Ability to sustain a moderate to vigorous level of physical activity while negotiating rough terrain at construction and stormwater control sites.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.

Engineer VI – Air Quality Modeler

The DNREC Division of Air Quality monitors and regulates emissions to the air. Air monitoring is supported by the Ambient Air Monitoring Program which operates a network of monitoring stations throughout the State. This monitoring network measures pollutants for which national air quality standards have been defined to protect public health, welfare, and the environment. The Ambient Air Monitoring Program is supported by Air Monitoring Quality Assurance Program, which ensures the quality of data produced. Both programs assist in analysis and distribution of the air monitoring data.

This position will perform regional and local air quality modeling for the Division of Air Quality and in support of the Division of Climate Coastal and Energy. Air quality modeling is required for permitting, and demonstrations of attainment with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. Air quality modeling is also important for climate change planning and projection. It will also require planning and coordination with local, regional and national partners. In addition to modeling, this position will supervise two environmental scientists who perform quality assurance work for the Division of Air Quality’s ambient air monitoring network.

Watershed Protection – Watershed Manager II

General Description and Classification Standards

Protects Watershed or Aviation department by ensuring compliance with federal, state, regional, and local laws, rules, regulations and requirements. Ensures the maintenance of surface water quality for the benefit of public infrastructure and the natural environment. Duties include but are not limited to: compiling data; generating reports; coordinating programs; reviewing and analyzing legal and financial issues pertinent to the environmental office; drafting environmental grants and coordinating public information. This is a highly experienced professional in environmental monitoring and assessment who routinely exercises project leadership over complex projects, trains other professionals, and/or serves as a specialized subject matter expert in one or more specific areas. Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related field and 8 years’ of progressively responsible environmental compliance or engineering experience which includes 5 years of supervisory experience.

Licensures and Certifications

Valid State of Georgia driver’s license required. A Professional Engineer’s licensure issued by the State of Georgia desired.

Research Associate I

Summary: The position is a Research Associate I for Dr. Schroeder’s research program. This position is responsible for the day-to-day research activities in the lab, planning and conducting experiments, in consultation with Dr. Schroeder, data collection and analysis, and providing summaries of the research. The Research Associate I is also responsible for managing the undergraduate researchers who work in the laboratory. The research focus is on microbiology of plant pathogens.

Performs research activities and analysis; implements and evaluates research procedures and data. Records observations and measurements then reports results. Responsible for analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude. May supervise junior research personnel.

Duties may include:

Engineer, Water & Energy Services

The Engineer, Water & Energy Services is responsible for the onsite service of a diverse range of water treatment programs provided by Global Water Technology at various client locations. These programs include, but are not limited to, steam boilers, cooling towers, hot and chilled closed loop systems, wastewater treatment, potable water treatment, related filtration and pre-treatment equipment, and chemical feed systems. In this position,

Engineer, Water & Energy Services is an entry level position however a degree in a related engineering field is required. Candidates for the position of Engineer, Water & Energy Services should have a strong propensity to want to excel in a very competitive industry, within a fast-growing company, where customer retention and a desire to grow both personally and professionally is a keen desire. It is expected that this position will lead to a role within Global Water Technology, Inc that deals directly with the application, design and implementation of the water treatment programs provided.

Summary of Duties:

· Manage water treatment programs at established client sites through regular program audits which include obtaining and testing water samples using field laboratory equipment.

· Resolve program non-conformances by troubleshooting problems and implementing corrective measures which may include equipment repairs or chemical dosage adjustments.

· Generate professionally written technical reports which advise on industry best practices for operating mechanical equipment with a focus on extended equipment life as well as water and energy savings. This often involves identifying, recommending, and implementing program upgrades.

· Conduct customer meetings to communicate program results in a manner that builds rapport and promotes customer care of their mechanical systems.

Water Protection Coordinator

Position Summary

The Water Protection Coordinator will work with the Water Protection Manager to implement participatory science programming, water conservation initiatives, and pollution-prevention strategies. This position is specifically focused on community-based water protection activities throughout the Galveston Bay Estuary.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

· Oversee the Rain Barrel Program and conduct community workshops to educate the public on water conservation initiatives and distribute rain barrels

· Coordinate shoreline and on-water cleanup events for volunteer groups at various locations throughout Galveston Bay and the adjacent tributaries

· Assist with annual, partner-led cleanups such Abandoned Crab Trap Removal, Trash Bash, and Adopt-A-Beach

· Assist with volunteer-driven field surveys such as NOAA Marine Debris Surveys, TX Stream Teams Water Quality Monitoring, Nurdle Patrol, and EPA Escaped Trash Assessment Protocol Surveys

· Conduct data entry, quality checks, analysis, and data visualization associated with survey/monitoring data collected by volunteers, staff, and partners

· Engage stakeholders and conduct outreach related to Water Protection programming

(e.g. tabling at community events, presentations, workshops, yearly reports, newsletters, etc.)

· Assist Water Protection Manager with program planning, supply management, grant reporting, and special projects as needed

Qualifications

The position is well-suited to someone who can manage multiple projects independently and enjoys a combination of volunteer and event coordination, data management, as well as field work.

Required qualifications include:

· Bachelor’s degree in water resource management, environmental science, or related field

· 1-2 years of professional experience in environmental science, environmental outreach, and/or volunteer management

· Data management experience

· Field work experience, particularly in the coastal environment/on the water

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to develop and manage productive relationships with staff, volunteers, and partners

Summer 2025 Environmental Science/Engineering Intern

Overview

Provide support to Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC) as an Environmental Science or Engineering Intern – Limited Service Employee (LSE) on the Savannah River Site (SRS), a US Department of Energy (DOE) facility in Aiken, South Carolina.
Responsibilities

The Environmental Science or Engineering intern will perform meaningful work in support of the SRMC organization. The selected Environmental Science or Engineering intern will take an active role in the Environmental & Waste Disposal Authority Department to support ongoing projects. The selected intern will support Environmental Compliance Authorities work to ensure facility operations are conducted in a manner that conforms with applicable federal and state regulatory requirements. These projects may also include environmental work related to computational calculations and computer codes to simulate the transportation of chemical or radiological constituents in environmental media.

Additional Information:
The internship is expected to be a 10–12 week period from May 2025 until the end of July 2025. Housing is not provided, but reasonable rentals may be available through local university student housing offices. The selected candidate will be responsible for their own transportation.

A 40-hour work week is set and scheduled by the individual departments. SRMC utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), etc. Each workday has a 30-minute lunch. Interns will be paid a competitive hourly rate; no summer interns will be assigned to shift work; overtime is not available; Interns will be paid for site holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th) as applicable.

Assignments will be located in SRMC facilities in Aiken, SC. Public transportation is not available, and interns will be required to arrange their own transportation. A valid Driver’s License, Registration and proof of automobile insurance is required for driving on the Savannah River Site.

Qualifications

Candidate must be enrolled as a full-time student at:
An accredited four-year university, and currently working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or Engineering
Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above and completed their Sophomore year.

In addition:

Must pass General Employment Training (GET)
Must pass Drug and Alcohol Testing (DAT)

These two items will be scheduled before the intern starts work at Savannah River Site.

The selected intern should possess strong math and/or computer programming skills.

Planning Engineer

The Planning Engineer assists with the planning, design, bidding and construction of capital construction projects including a variety of planning and civil engineering-oriented tasks, project development, permitting, plan review, and planning coordination. Working under the direction of the Chief Planning and Design Officer with Principal Planners and the Park District Civil Engineer.

Essential Functions:

Regular and predictable attendance is expected and All Cleveland Metroparks employees must be prepared to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as required.
Performs a wide range of professional transportation planning activities, including research, data analysis, and plan development; presentation development, coordinates activities with staff; functions as a liaison between Park District and external public/private sector agencies and organizations, assists with grant applications.
Manages and leads stakeholder and public involvement activities, including coordinating meeting logistics, advertising, presentations, and public speaking.
