The Stormwater and Environmental Compliance Coordinator is responsible for providing task leadership and technical guidance for implementation and compliance for the Town of Leesburg Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Program, the Chesapeake Bay and Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) programs, Town of Leesburg ordinances, as well as applicable state and federal laws. Environmental Compliance Specialist

The Environmental Compliance Specialist is responsible for providing support to the Regional Environmental Manager, interacting with regulatory agencies, monitoring leak detection and compliance testing of underground storage tank systems, monitoring and controlling spending and coordinating emergency response for environmental issues.

Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Notice of Violations – Response to all violations incurred
Inspections – Coordinate all inspections to be conducted (except Texas). Arrange inspections with inspectors, rectify deficiencies found in inspections conducted by Crompco through Maintenance and Sales Representative to correct, where possible, prior to filing inspection report.
Report failures, as required.
Inventory Control Variances: Works with reportable to ensure all investigations are documented and acted upon. Tracks causes of variances and works with Operations, Maintenance, and Fuel Dispatch to ensure that the causes of variances are addressed per customer specified protocols
Manages and maintains compliance with state-specific fuel inventory reconciliation regulations
Leak Detection Verification & Reporting-using a remote connection, ensure all fueling systems have monthly and if required weekly passing leak detection results. Ensures results for each fueling system at each store are archived in the required databases and accessible when there is an inspection of the facility. Work with Sales Representatives in ensuring dealers remain in Compliance with regulations
Develop statistics regarding leak detection for review with managers and Operations to communicate trends and develop a plan of action

Environmental Engineer

Help to safeguard public health and protect the environment in New York by joining NEIWPCC as a Project Director. We’re seeking a knowledgeable Environmental Engineer to oversee an administrative consent order to abate combined sewer overflows (CSO) within the New York City watershed.

What You’ll Do

As a NEIWPCC Environmental Engineer you will:

Provide high-level program management of all obligations under the CSO Consent Order, identify potential problems with implementation and facilitate timely resolution in coordination with internal and external partners.
Complete comprehensive technical reviews of and develop detailed comments on documents submitted under the CSO Order and prepare technical memoranda and presentations.
Conduct site visits of active construction projects, attend and construction progress meetings to identify potential problems associated with project implementation, and prepare construction site inspections reports to document status of project construction.
Supervise and provide guidance to a NEIWPCC Environmental Engineer working on the program.

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will have a passion and interest in preserving and advancing water quality. We are seeking candidates with:

A New York State Professional Engineer’s license.
Knowledge of wastewater collection system and treatment plant engineering design and operation practices.
Knowledge of USEPA and NYSDEC wastewater, stormwater, and CSO rules and regulations and experience working with federal, state, or local water/wastewater agencies.
A degree in environmental, civil, chemical, or mechanical engineering, or in a related field with ten years of experience in wastewater treatment plants or wastewater collection facilities design and construction with at least three years as a professional engineer.

Position Logistics

This full-time NEIWPCC position will work 7.5 hours per day and is based in Albany, NY. Duties will be performed largely in an office setting with occasional travel to and from construction sites or meetings in New York City, for which a valid driver’s license and access to own transportation are required. After six months, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule, subject to approval and program needs.

Research Associate I, Aquaculture

This position will perform aquaculture-related research and outreach in support of a funded USDA-FAS project, providing, among other things, expertise and consultation in fish trout culture, farm best management practices, and fish husbandry protocols. Further efforts will involve research and fish husbandry as part of collaborative teams within the Aquaculture Research Institute at the Hagerman Fish Culture Experiment Station, Hagerman, Idaho. Environmental Technician

The department is seeking a qualified individual to assist existing staff with ongoing and new initiatives including Water Quality Improvement Initiatives. The qualified individual will assist department staff with data collection, field work, monitoring activities and preparing reports and developing habitat and water quality improvement projects.

The Natural Resources Department staff will play a pivotal role in developing initiatives promoting nonpoint source abatement and preventing groundwater pollution. New watershed-based initiatives will be developed to build partnerships and enhance management of water resources at both the county and local level through collaborative projects.

Environmental Technicians work in many different capacities to perform a wide range of duties centered on designing the most supportive, interdependent relationship between people and their natural environment.

The Pollinator Conservation Specialist will support Xerces’ private-sector partners in designing and implementing cutting-edge conservation systems for bees and beneficial insects on farms across California and the U.S.

Supervised by Senior Pollinator Habitat Specialist, Food Systems and Living Farms Project Lead, this position will collaborate closely with farm managers, crop industry leaders and key staff at some of the largest food companies in the world to design and implement biodiversity and regenerative practices on farms that serve the manufactured food and fresh produce industries, with a special focus on the California citrus industry.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with key staff at select food companies to identify and reach out to farms that will implement pollinator habitat and climate smart agriculture practices.
  • Work with leaders in the California citrus industry to implement pollinator conservation, soil health and carbon sequestration practices on citrus farms
  • Develop large-scale habitat planting plans, including protocols for site preparation, planting methods, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Support the promotion, recruitment, and on-boarding of farms into Xerces’ Bee Better Certified farm and food product certification program, including technical assistance throughout the application process.

    • Occasionally work in the field for 8-12 hours per day under adverse weather conditions.
    • Frequently traverse across agricultural roads and fields, unpaved roads and walkways, and unimproved trails for periods of 2-8 hours.
    • Frequently drive vehicle or fly by commercial airline for periods of up to 8 hours.
  • Able to work in stationary position for periods of 2-8 hours.
  • Travel overnight when necessary for project assessments, implementation or planning.
