This position is for an ambitious, hardworking environmental professional to train in a wide variety of environmental services. This opportunity is for an individual who is interested in being mentored by certified professionals in the following areas: erosion and sediment control inspections, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) inspections, wetland delineations and permitting, perennial flow determinations, and Resource Protection Area (RPA) delineations.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

The Pollinator Conservation Specialist will support Xerces’ private-sector partners in designing and implementing cutting-edge conservation systems for bees and beneficial insects on farms across California and the U.S.

Supervised by Senior Pollinator Habitat Specialist, Food Systems and Living Farms Project Lead, this position will collaborate closely with farm managers, crop industry leaders and key staff at some of the largest food companies in the world to design and implement biodiversity and regenerative practices on farms that serve the manufactured food and fresh produce industries, with a special focus on the California citrus industry.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with key staff at select food companies to identify and reach out to farms that will implement pollinator habitat and climate smart agriculture practices.
  • Work with leaders in the California citrus industry to implement pollinator conservation, soil health and carbon sequestration practices on citrus farms
  • Develop large-scale habitat planting plans, including protocols for site preparation, planting methods, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Support the promotion, recruitment, and on-boarding of farms into Xerces’ Bee Better Certified farm and food product certification program, including technical assistance throughout the application process.
  • Document pest management practices on farms and work with farmers to foster the adoption of Integrated Pest Management strategies.
  • Directly participate in the establishment of hedgerows, wildflower meadows and cover crop systems in heavily managed agricultural settings, including direct collaboration with farm staff and labor.
  • Perform monitoring of on-farm pollinator and beneficial insect habitats throughout the region.
  • Support partners with science-based advice and consulting on native bee conservation, on-farm ecosystem services and nature-based pest and climate solutions.
  • Communicate our conservation model and the impact of our work to diverse stakeholders including farmers, food companies, and government agencies at conferences, workshops, and business meetings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED

    • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work independently managing conservation projects and plans with professional clients.

    • Knowledge of large-scale farm practices and specialty crop management systems, especially in California Citrus.

    • Experience identifying California native plant species and establishing habitat in highly impacted landscapes.

The Conservation Data and Technology Specialist will support Xerces’ Pollinator and Agricultural Biodiversity Team’s Living Farms Project by designing and maintaining geospatial, tabular and qualitative data management systems while developing visualizations and science communication assets.
  • Supervised by the Senior Pollinator Habitat Specialist, Food Systems and Living Farms Project Lead, this position will collaborate closely with Xerces’ growing team of Pollinator Conservation Specialists who design, implement and monitor cutting-edge conservation systems for bees and beneficial insects on farms across the U.S. This position sits at the intersection of data science and science communication, and it plays a key role in advancing applied science practices, invertebrate conservation and regenerative agriculture.
  • Streamline and manage existing geospatial and other data management systems for optimal field data capture, easy statistic retrieval and analysis, and reporting.
  • Provide GIS and mapping technical support to Xerces staff and conservation practitioners.
  • Perform regular quality control of incoming field data, GIS and related files. Work with other staff to fix errors and improve workflow.
  • Research and evaluate environmental and landscape data sets published by wildlife, ecology and agricultural researchers; major government agencies, such as the USDA and EPA; and other NGOs for planning and restoration purposes.
  • Help streamline habitat restoration project design by sourcing and combining external environmental data sets – such as soils, flooding potential, or climate change predictions – with internal research and practice data into user friendly web services and/or interactive tools for internal and external use.

Senior Environmental Manager 1

This position is a Senior Environmental Manager 1 in the Enforcement Section within the Wastewater Compliance and Enforcement Branch, Office of Water Quality of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM). The position is a senior case manager for water enforcement to achieve compliance with state laws and rules relating to wastewater, drinking water, stormwater and wetlands. The case manager evaluates and analyzes enforcement referrals and recommends a course of action to bring violator into compliance. This includes gathering of evidence, crafting of documents related to a case including notice of violations and agreed orders, negotiation of settlements, calculating civil and stipulated penalties, coordinating with the Attorney General’ s Office when necessary and serving as a witness at hearings. In addition to case management, this senior level staff is also responsible for additional duties to assist the Section as needed and assigned. These responsibilities can include participating in regular meetings with program areas to identify case management issues and priorities, serving as the OWQ representative for special committees, conducting peer reviews of Section case documents, updating templates as necessary, assisting with SharePoint and Power Automate, serving as a technical resource, and assisting new staff with training. Salary Statement:

Qualifications

Experience in landfill and anaerobic digestor operations, permitting or environmental monitoring a plus; knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations a plus.

We are currently seeking environmental professionals with both project management and sales/client relationship experience to join our growing company. Water Resources Project Manager

The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Water Resources Project Manager to perform responsible support for the watershed master plan program. Conduct hydraulic and hydrologic modeling for watershed studies and developing comprehensive management plans. Perform other civil and modeling work as needed, including reviewing drainage studies and stormwater project designs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct various aspects of watershed master plan studies; provide project and task management; and envision and manage technical planning projects and programs.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves responsibility for performing elementary
technical engineering work. Employees are first assigned tasks of a routine, mechanical nature but the
difficulty of assignments is progressively increased to eventually involve the application of elementary
engineering techniques and the use of engineering instruments on routine work. The duties involve

Geologist or Hydrologist – Senior Level

Barr is seeking a senior level geologist or hydrogeologist to join one of its Minnesota offices and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites.

Assignments may include working as an individual or as part of a project team to assist with performing or coordinating the completion of ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments in support of property transactions (e.g., acquisitions, divestitures); designing, implementing, and coordinating activities associated with Phase II investigations, including investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor intrusion; interpreting data and developing site conceptual models; developing site management strategies and response action plans (RAPs), including conducting remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies; estimating costs associated with these types of activities; completing contracting associated with these activities; preparation of technical reports; and responding to quotes and proposals.
